Yeah, the first time I saw the warping between the realms...
I just never got bored of that! The gameplay and quest structure was very solid too - learning new abilites to revisit old areas, previously tantalisingly out of reach. I seem to remember the boss battles required some out of the box thinking. Especially enjoyed smashing those windows to burn up the water vampire!

one of my favourite demos is the unreleased Lamborghini racer for Xbox - with unlimited time, i just go round the track the wrong way to try and mash up the car as much as possible - i can normally play it for 30 minutes or so before the car gets too monged.

i can also remember the original Splinter Cell Xbox demo, again didn't actually play the game 'properly' - 45 minutes spent playing 'tag' with guards and drinks cans - i was so impressed i went on to buy the game.

i still have my original PS1 demo disc that came bundled with the machine - with the dinosaur and manta ray. great stuff. didn't the second bundled disc have Gar d'Europa from WipeOut 2097 on it? i can remember playing that to destruction - 3 or 4 laps and my game was to see how many of the other ships i could destroy, think i managed 7 or 8.

also the P.N.03 demo that GAME gave away - by the time it was released over here i had already burned throught the JPN version - it was the usual pre-order balls in GAME, the demo was ?2 or something and i was asked for my name/phone number i said '...nah, i just want the demo, i have the game.' the dude at the counter blinked as if i had just teleported in from The Future to **** with his head.

The Resident Evil 2 demo was another big one for me.

I remember that demo disc! It came with loads of stuff, even an interactive graphic synthesiser to the music and all sorts of other stuff (trailers, demos, t-rex head).

Awesome demo - good shout. Such a shame that never got released it absolutely shone as a demo - would have been a cert buy for me !

Another one. MSR demo for the DC. A lap around a tokyo track. Sounds indistinct but MSR was mindblowing at the time for being one of the first proper 'next-gen' games to be modelled after a real place.

I played the Mayhem in Monsterland demos released on the Commodore Format tapes quite a lot.

Which months mag was this from? Cause I'd like to hunt this down via either ebay or a torrent or something.

Thats one demo I spent more time on than alot of full games. It was just mind blowing, and when Am I Only Dreaming was the music, it just gave it a very weird ambience on the City Fly Through. There was a certain mood to MSR that Bizarre have never managed to recreate with the PGR games.

The winner for me has to be the Transport Tycoon demo though, it gave you 2 full years of the game but you could only use trains. Still really gave you a good idea of what the full game entailed, and once I got the full game I went on to play it regularly for over 3 years. Pretty much my favourite game ever though. It's a shame Locomotion didn't come out quite as well as I'd hoped.

Resi 2 Demo with the Director's Cut version of RE!
A friend of mine let me keep it after i went round his house especially to play it , the shame.

Also, the Lost Planet demo is fantastic, i remember playing the PC Max Payne 2 demo a lot due to the fun physics and same with the Far Cry demo.

Sega Saturn Flash Vol4 : the Die Hard Arcade demo was clocked around 100 times

Another vote for the Resident Evil 2 demo, we speed ran that so many times just to see if we could get a few seconds further before the demo ran out of time. I wouldn't like to say how many days we wasted on that one.

Loved the Tekken 3 CE disc from OPSM, still have it tucked away in a cupboard somewhere!

Also, in a real retro moment, my best friend at the time had just got a PC ( first one I'd ever played with ) & we had a 3 level demo of Command & Conquer, the installation screen blew me away even before the demo had started. I absolutely loved that demo to pieces.

Ooh, another one. The one level demo of Tony Hawks that came with a DC magazine.

Isn't it funny how once you get the full game, with loads more levels, they often seem a let down. If I have a single level demo of something good I find/do *everything* there, but given the full game I just don't feel the urge.

Well i always loved the shareware scene like with doom/dukenukem/rise of the triads etc

Not strictly demos though as i think they were far far more generous then most demos actually were

demos that stuck out in my mind panzer dragoon zwei of the sega saturn mag (spent ages playing that demo) resident evil 2 otogi (of the offical xbox mag)

And also the various amiga and spectrum covermounts over the year.None really stick out in my mind though

Oh and again not really a demo but christmas nights one of the finest freebies i think ever
