    2D Beat Em Up's

You either love them or hate them. Thanks to this weeks release of SFII on
the 360 I have been seriously been bitten by the Beat Em Up bug.
I went out and bought Guilty Gear X2 Reload for my X-Box today (having never played a game from the series and am seriously loving it!!!!!

Not including King of Fighters which I already have what other decent beat em ups are out there (2D that is!) for the X-Box and PS2?

Secondly can someone recommend a decent stick please..I have been using my joypad's and just dont think they are up to the task (or Im not) and want to try a different control method.

Mod's if this is in the wrong forum I do apologise!!!!

For today's recipe you will need:

    1 xbox
1 copy of SF Anniversary collection (for SF3:3S)
    1 PS2 > xbox controller adapter
1 PS2 Hori stick (something like the Soul Calibur sticks or Arcade Pro)

    Combine thoroughly and enjoy.

(warning: needs the patience of a saint if played online)

I recommend the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.

You can bag it for a bargain at Amazon >>> http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...8&s=videogames

Thanks for the responses. I have SF Anniversary ( purely for 3rd Strike ) and agree that it is somewhat of an interesting experience.

Do you have a link to the Hori Stick?

Unlike many other videogame genres, 2D beat 'em ups have an undisputed king. Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike is just so far ahead of the competion it's not even funny. Ok, so this is largely an subjective opinion, but it seems that most hardened 2d fighter fans rate 3S as the champion of the genre. I've playing it everyday for last couple of years and I'm still discovering new things within this masterpiece. Come on Capcom, produce another sequel to this, you are the only company with the magic to do it.

On a side note, I never understood the appeal of joysticks / arcade sticks, technically they are the way beat 'em ups are meant to played but I simply cannot use them to save my life. The only thing I'll use is either a ps2 pad or a saturn pad, they both have perfect d-pads and this really is the business end of fighter control in my view. I bought a DC arcade stick as I felt I should at least try to use one, but never have I experienced a bigger piece of ****. It looks lovely but that big spongy joystick is a nightmare, feels more like analogoue than digital. I also tried the ASCI FT pad and thought that was rubbish too, suprisingly bad for a dedicated controller. Rant off /

To a certain extent I agree with you with regards to the Saturn pad as it is quite responsive. I dont find the current D-Pads and Analogue sticks much cop though which is why I wanted to try a stick.

I agree completely, the d-pads on either of the Xbox pads are unbelievably bad for fighters. I opted for an adaptor to use a ps2 pad on my xbox and it's the perfect solution for me, it's even great for other 2d stuff like shooters and roms. You can get ones to use Saturn pads too, it's a really cheap alternative to forking out for a arcade stick.

Any idea where I can get one of these adapters to use the Saturn Pad? It would be cheaper than getting a stick in the first instance.

for a saturn pad, if you are playing on xbox then buy one of the saturn pads for the ps2 then get an adaptor for ps2 to xbox

and as far as i'm aware garou on the ps2 is just JAP but i was planning on getting the dreamcast version since dreamcasts are near enough region free with a boot disk

Dvdmike - I have been searching for Marvel vs Capcom for some time. I get the impression its something I am going to stumble on by accident one day when I am out shopping!

I' ve been paying King of Fighters XI for a month or so now and it is excellent, the first KOF game that I really enjoyed.

I spent ages trying to find MVsC2 on the XBox, it was worth it though pity there is no XBox live support.
