Many of the EA sports games don't like running in a video mode that's not native region, if you play any of those. I have to switch it for Tiger Woods 05.

I think you are confusing video mode and region codes.
no i'm not. i assumed psychonauts has an issue being played in 60hz as PhilG mentioned it specifically - it didn't occur to me that maybe he was talking regions, as i was in 50/60hz mode at the time

sounds a bit too good to be true, considering sony's track record with 60hz and the ps2

i mean, what about uk dvds and blu ray films? of course it could do what any pc does and just adjust them to work in 60hz (my 360 does that with pal dvds when played over vga in 60hz anyway, although i'm not sure what happens if you set the dash to 60hz while using a standard def connection as i don't have one).

not to mention the backwards compatibility with ps2/psone games - that'd go to the ****s if they did indeed scrap 50hz support.

on a side note, does anyone know of a way to test if my monitor can do HD in 50hz? can't find anything in the (admittedly) vague manual. jake mentioned something about the 360 defaulting to 50hz when you first plug in the hd cable but then going to 60hz after that, but i'm wondering if i've lost that window of opportunity seeing as i use the vga cable
