I read that the image quality of the X2VGA 2 was about as good as the VD-Z3 and pricing is $65 or $85, somewhat less than the "$200 on a transcoder" mentioned by Lyris.

Indeed. I'd much prefer this myself, and I think it's a shame that Nintendo haven't confirmed its availability for launch - graphics aren't everything, but it puts them a ways behind the competition.

I think you may have yah currency convertor mixed up. Thats seems an awfully big drop in price.

Any idea where i can go to change me money then with them rates? Everywhere else says they dont charge commission but they actually have, hence the lower rate. I tried M&S money but thats only 1.8 at best.

I'm really sorry to ask a dumb question, but why won't one of these work? The Gamecube does progressive over component (right?), so what's to suggest the Wii won't?

                Thanks,

Not a dumb question, the Wii will probably support 480p on every game. If you look at most of the transcoders there, they're designed for inputting Interlaced only video. I am not sure exactly what trick those boxes use to convert the Interlaced signal to Progressive but I will bet a lot of money that it will look like crap.

The one on the far end that's designed for Progressive only stuff should probably work OK, but the price is too low to make me say for sure. If you try it out then tell us how you get on...

I've got mine ordered from VG+ (47157) and with all this talk of leads I suddenly thought how do I power the thing? Any recommendations as to where I can get a suitable step-down converter from?

I wish you were right mate but I've found one Wii game that's confirmed to be 480i only and thats GT Pro Series (8th question down).

Let's just hope that it's just a one off.

To be honest nintendo not going to high defination this time around is a big big mistake, i played my gamecube yesterday in 480p and id forgotten how bad the resolution is compared to those lovely HD 360 games. I was all out to get one but its put me right off to be honest.

The gamecube still looks lush in 480p on my set, so vibrant.

The X2VGA2 is another transcoder just like the VD-Z3. Both are a similar price, though the X2VGA2 is newer, so has more features (such as 2x inputs).

This does not change the basic fact that they will only work with Progressive input though, and while Nintendo have said all first party games will support 480p, not necessarily all third party ones will.

You're not buying one because of the screen res?

LOL. I bet you do. You'll cave when everyone else on the planet is raving on about how they're the best thing ev4r.

I will probally still end up getting one, as ive owned every nintendo machine so far, i cant see myself not getting one, but i still think only to have 480p is a mistake, its just when you get used to games in HD, its a shame we cant have it with all the next gen machines.

Looks like some new models have come out then - the Key Digital ones are still pricey. I'd be curious to hear if these really are as good.
