I didn't get the PS1 models sadly. Starting with 4k res i was getting unstable 40fps on medium/high (barely any difference FPS wise), setting it to low made it look like dark souls with a solid 60(left it at the in game cap that could be changed). In the end i dropped the res to 1440p and Medium settings which worked well staying at 60 during 4 player quests, good enough for me as the picture is still sharp so i'll be getting the PC version for sure.

Doing the 'setpiece' before the tutorial again i just put the pad down and it moved me all the way to the bit where you are force to get the screamer pod bit, i really hope crap like this is kept to a minimum.

How are the controls on this one? I tried to play World but I couldn't get past the clunky controls and years of different muscle memory.

I would say they are very similar. Could depend on your weapon of choice too? Traversal is made a lot easier thanks to the Seikret (mount) will auto-follow your next destination or tracked monster - so whilst mounted you can now sharper, replenish and get a running jump attack from it. Majority of the controls are the sae as World though. The new Focus Mode makes it easier to attack using certain slow weapons i.e. you can use it to properly aim your attacks. Inventory managements is more or less the same too.

Open Beta test 2 will commence 6th/7th Feb (depending on where you are in the world (7th for UK)). Then there will be another beta test the following weekend.

Ray tracing at 40 with vrr could be the best way for this if it’s stable.

There was a typo in the original PS5 Pro performance breakdown chart (display in previous post). Balanced had wrong 'Rendering' resolution. This has now been updated with correct info...

Had a brief go playing solo against one of the new monsters in the beta, definitely felt better optimization on PC, was able to take it back to 4k res and turn most settings to High again which ran well in solo, when i get some more time tonight i'll see the how the true test of 4 players/pets and 3 monsters on screen is handled.

I just tried the beta on vanilla PS5. It was alright. Defaulted to quality mode, and it looked...OK. Hard to tell, really, when the starter desert environment is so much blander than the lush starting biome of Worlds, but the beige rock textures were pretty low res and washed out. Noticeable frame rate drops in cutscenes. Combat lacked impact, and apart from the 'target wound' mechanic you could be fighting air most of the time. The UI clutter is something else. R1 radial wheel selector erupts pretty much right in your main FOV, with your character sandwiched between that and the minimap and a ton of other visual and text prompts. It's a mess, even by Monster Hunter standards. Lots of customisation options, though, so hopefully it can be comprehensively tweaked. In general I wasn't blown away but I'll give it another go later.

Runs ok enough 4 player now, a few noticeable hiccups here and there. I have to agree now how ugly the the starting map is, specially compared to opening maps of World and Iceborne.

Feel pretty confident i'll be picking up on PC at the end of the month.

I do believe they announced that the betas (this weekend and next) are running the same code as the last beta. They said all graphical and functional updates will arrive day one.
