Year mine definitely isn’t quiet, it’s not PS4 pro saturn5 levels but it’s noticeable at night when everything else is off and I’m sat back on the sofa 8ft away from it.

I think once all the takedowns are done diagnosing what fans are the dead quiet ones, I would consider swapping it out.

The disk drive on the other hand is ridiculous, makes movies unwatchable.

To be honest, I haven't run anything on mine yet that I would consider to be a title that would remotely push the system which may change things. As things stand though it's pin drop silent so far.

That's thing thing though, there's no consistency. If they were all a bit loud, fine ... I don't like the luck factor in getting a quiet or noisy one. And the thought of a noisy disc drive just makes me want to keep hold of my std PS5 as I use it for films as much as I game on it.

I'm surprised to see people are divided over the disc drive thing.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the price, and saw it didn't include one. I kinda expect a "pro" model to be a definitive enthusiast's version, and I expect that to come with a drive. The Xbox 360 came in SKUs with/without the HDD, but it would've been bizarre if the "elite" version they released had come without it.

I personally needed the drive as I’m disk based, but the noise of this thing is totally unacceptable.

edit. It obviously goes off when the games initial disk check and load is done so isn’t an issue really when gaming, but movies are off the table that are always being read. Very disappointing.

If the "Elite" version of the Series X released today, it wouldn't come with a drive (for cost reasons, to push digitial distribution due to larger margins and because MS is going all-in with cloud gaming & Game Pass).

If you want the drive, you can buy the drive - I really don't see the issue here (and nor, seemingly, do the people buying it), not everyone wants to pay the extra for a drive.

Makes me wince every time I take the covers off any of the PS5’s, I’m so heavy handed I’m like, is this the time I smash it?

Checked mine today, seems I’ve got a Foxcon fan, not a Delta, but mines definitely not silent, it’s not overbearing but definitely not dead silent.
