Honestly, it sounds so good. I'm so glad that they've taken such a bold approach with it. I love the idea of seamlessly moving from one race to the next across an open world as players are knocked out.
It's obviously not an original idea - we've had loads of open world racers over the last twenty years - but with the level of quality that EPD bring to the table with Mario Kart (and the level of time, budget, and effort that's gone into it, that IMO is apparent in footage of the game), I think this will truly be something special.
Mario Kart 8 was really the logical conclusion of traditional Mario Kart. They took the original four-tracks-in-a-cup concept as far as it could possibly go really. Time for something new.
What's going to be really interesting when we get the MKW Direct is to see how online multiplayer has been implemented. I played loads of MK8 multiplayer on Switch, but eventually grew bored of it. It was just too limited, too dull. For years I've been wanting them to take inspiration from games like Fortnite for a future MK, to make it feel like a live service when you're playing online. The format they've set out here has a ton of opportunities for that so I'm really interested to see what it's like.Last edited by wakka; 04-04-2025, 09:45.

It reminds me of Outrun in a way, where the scenery changes as you race through the long map. Itโs a neat way of opening up the game.
You could set up a marathon racing session, much like Le Mans 24. Although itโs probably more enjoyable in Mario Kart as the course will change and you are constantly being attacked.
defo an evolution in the Mario Kart series.

I will always love the classic Mario Kart formula, but I'm totally cool with this evolution and freshening up of it. As long as they don't use this as a cynical excuse to prostitute it with F2P then I'm good.
