Sorry if this has been discussed before but could someone set me straight on the whole left vs right handed thing.

So.. I'm a lefty, is there an option to mirror Zelda Wii for me?

I've seen shots a plenty of sling shots and bows and its gonna feel mighty odd doing this with a right handed Zelda avatar..

Surely Nintendo have included the option to switch..

Dont get me wrong im looking forward to it as much as the next guy. Its going to be a cracking game. But after windwaker which was a good game in its own right but not quite a "triple A title" do i really wanna get so hyped over it and be disapointed yet again?

BTW did you hear me say the wii was doomed.....erm NOPE

Apparently not. Wii Zelda will be right handed Link, and Gamecube Zelda will be left handed Link. I'm a lefty myself, though I'm not a typical example anyhow as I do many things both handed. I can see myself playing almost all Wii games that require both controller parts with the remote in my right anyhow. For the remote only games though, I may be left handed. It depends, I use a TV remote in my right a lot as well

Most Wii games appear to have a handed option but not Zelda it seems.

@Malc - I believe it's now listed as retail here for the 15th December. I can't imagine them NOT releasing it in Europe seeing as it will be available in the US in shops.

Where did I say that you did?

What I was eluding to was your throw away remark that no one was buying the Wii version of Zelda.

Maybe they didn't want to do all of the flipping on the fly?

The reason given is because at least 90% of all Wii users will have the remote in their right hand, hence that's the one being used for the sword. So they figured it made "sense" on-screen to have Link with the sword in his right hand as well.

It should be fun for the walkthroughs cos all directions are going to be reversed by the sounds of it. Take the left path, no the right path, depending on if you have the Wii or Cube version

I'll be getting the Cube version anyhow (cos I'm going for a full US set) for my "proper" left handed Link experience

It would have been a simple proceedure to 'flip' Links character model. There would be a Link character model file that would simply require flipping, simple as.

There's no such thing as flipping on the fly, implying that there's extra computations required to achieve it.

I think the reason given by Nintendo is that some aspects of the game maps are designed around handedness. Obviously I don't know about Zelda, but here's a for-instance - it's traditional the spiral staircases in castle towers to turn to the right as you climb them; thus a right-handed defender can swing his sword more easily as he retreats upwards or holds the stairs.

The sensible thing to do would be to have a one-paragraph explanation at the beginning of each walk-through... thereafter use "the sword-side path" and so on.

'There is every reason to get Zelda on Wii, but if you're still not convinced that the controls work just fine, consider that I was just as skeptical as you are now before I put some serious play time into the game. So were the other 30 or so journalists who played alongside me. And when the gameplay session came to its too-early end, everybody in attendance agreed that the Wii remote and nunchuk combo performed beautifully. Nobody's arms were tired. Nobody felt that the continuity of the game universe had been sacrificed because the landscapes and items had been mirrored. And nobody complained that Link was a right-hander. In fact, we had a couple lefties who said playing with the game on Wii felt very natural.'

So say ign so maybe won't be as bad as you think. Hope not anyway...

Strange as it may seem, it's only really now dawning on me that in but a short time, we'll have a new Zelda game to get stuck into. If that's not the very definition of anticipation, then I have no idea what is...

GC or Wii, it's all very exciting

My first time using the Wii and its going to be with an old friend Can't think of a better way of experiencing the revolutionary control system than firing off a few hundred arrows and catching some fish with Link.

a few days ago I was still in doubt getting it for the GC so I could play it with the GC controller, but after reading EDGE and all this......... I'll be getting a Wii for sure, even if it's just to play Zelda

Oh YEAH - You know it makes sense Can't believe anybody is after the GC version now. If you're going to play (possibly) the best Zelda to date you gotta do it right.
