Ikaruga, R:racing and Beyond Good and Evil don't count as GC essentials because they are multiformat. Also, R:racing was a brilliant time trial racer in the road sections but the rally stages were pap (imho).

Ikaruga does, as it gave the game a Western release.

Pretty much any Gamecube game by Capcom is a must have in my opinion.

If you like card games and Phantasy Star Online, PSO C.A.R.D. is a nice change from the norm, plus its a Gamecube exclusive at the moment. Its worth picking up as another bargain.

                    My list:

Killer 7 : Probably my favourite GC game.

Paper Mario : Funny, charming and very well done. One of the best games on the machine.

                    Resi 4 : Masterclass

Super Monkey Ball : My first GC game. It's so old-school and so Sega, you just have to love it.

PN03 : Never mind the naysayers, this game is great. A very stylish shooter. (Boldness for the benefit of those who missed the fact that this wasn't a 3rd person adventure game).

Viewtiful Joe : Probably my second favourite GC game.

Chibi Robo : <-- That's all I have to say. I love this game to bits.

Metroid Prime : As has been said about a 10,000,000,000 times before; a gread 2D-to 3D transition.

Of course, there are other great GC games, but that's my 'essential' list.

I have Beyond Good & Evil, but haven't started it yet. I never did get round to Billy Hatcher either (I heard mixed reviews, and lots of comments about it being flawed). Is it worth picking up (going for a mere pittance in GAME)?

Have only recently been given a Gamecube so it is interesting looking at the list of essential games.

For a system that has a lot of followers the list of essential games is mighty small, does this mean that there are very few must have games on the system or everyone has just been buying the same games???

Have Borrowed Resi 4 and not started playing it properly yet but looks stunning and the way the villagers react to your actions is a refreshing change. The best Resi game.

Have finished P.N.03, this is a great arcade game.

Only briefly played Rogue Squadron, but this seems like a very good modern day version of the old Star Wars arcade game.

Have also borrowed Killer 7, nothing can prepare you for the freakyness of this game, what the $?*? is it about???

Ikaruga is probably my favourite shooter of all time on a console, well along with Rez.

So would you guys recommend Windwaker or do the Sailing sections ruin the game as i have heard on occassions.

Chibi Robo i have seen this game highly rated but never seen it anywhere.

Will be getting Mario Sunshine & F-Zero for def.

                        My essentials would be:

                        Pikmin 2
                        Metroid Prime
                        Resident Evil 4
                        Super Monkey Ball
                        Animal Crossing
                        Paper Mario 2
                        Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

                        Multiplayer Games

                        Pacman Vs
                        Wario Ware
                        Zelda Four Sword Adventures

                        Sure there are more...

I'd recommend the usual suspects - Resi 4, Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, Zelda, Pikmin, P.N.03, Eternal Darkness... Never mind the Ps2 versions of the Capcom games, the GC versions are superior (assuming you have NTSC versions if you're given to progressive scan etc).

But I'd also recommend Rogue Leader - not just a good Star Wars game (rare enough as it is) but a great arcade blaster.

All of my GC faves have been mentioned already (RE4, Killer7, PN.03, Viewtiful, FZX etc.) but can I put in an 'honourable mention' for Spiderman 2? I've probably mentioned it before, but as an 'inbetween-game game', it's superb, especially as it feels so slick and fluid on the GC controller.
