Only 2 forumers have had the brick yet (tyler and DavidFallows?).

Do it ASAP mate, there are no precautions you can take, it's a hardware error, may as well check it asap. If you can use the Wii Shop Channel after the updates, your in the clear.

Note that there are other, non-fatal error codes too.

      I say row-ter. Do you say root-er?

        I say:

        IT Router = Rooter
        DIY Router = Rowter

Are Nintendo not fixing the problem ? I presumed it was a problem with the download ?

I've not been online yet for fear of this - not too bothered as i have Zelda to play but want to get online at some point. I don't have much comeback either as i bought mine in New York so might have trouble sending it back.

Having said that a mate of mine flies out to New York on business on monday .......

It's nothing to do with the download unfortunately, the FlashRAM itself on some consoles is busted.
Nintendo will fix it, to a US address though =/

I say Rooter. As that's the proper way of saying it, rowter is American and therefore wrong.

Same thing goes with people that pronounce Han Solo as Hon Solo, that really pisses me off that one.

              Too many people watch Friends.

My Wii got the VC update error btw, and has been sent back. I should get another back at the end of next week, and hopefully before xmas.

No big deal as my speakers need replacing and I need to tidy up for my meet, which is a big job.

I've been getting this all afternoon, and finally got it sorted. The first thing was my mistake - I had added the MAC address to my router to give it a static IP, but forgot to add the MAC address to the wireless filter list, to allow it to connect.

I then had it on Wireless G only with the SSID hidden, and it didn't seem to connect there either. My router is playing up though, and every time it soft-reboots (after changing a wireless setting) I can't seem to get back into the config unless I cut the power, so things have been going slower than usual.

I think it needs wireless B (may work with G, I'm not sure) but it definitely doesn't like it if the SSID is hidden. I'm using channel 6 btw, which works fine.

Updated twice with no problem. (not sure why it had two updates)

I'm really pissed off with Play-Asia though; I ordered "Nintendo Wii (incl. Wii Sports) + The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (US)" and Monkey Ball, but the invoice just says "Video Game System US" and there was no Zelda in the box.

Fortunately a mate ended up with two yesterday, so he's sent it special delivery, and I should have it tomorrow though. I'll just get Play-Asia to send Metal Slug instead of Zelda. They did put some cherry-flavoured candy in the box though, which was nice of them... but I'd rather have had zelda.

Works fine for me in B+G mode, but I'm using channel 11. Sounds a bit pot luck to me.

I would suggest the best time to try a update is early to mid morning, when the US has less users, this is in case the rumour that the problem lies with a break in communications while the FLASH is in a critiucal point in the update.

There is no way it wouldn't download the whole update and store it in memory before updating.

how long do these updates take. there is a new one i read that adds parental controls, so that makes a total of 3 right now?

                            Updated no problem.

Was terrified before I updated as I'm sure everyone else is since noone has any idea how common the problem is. Someone should start a poll so we could get an idea how common it is.

                            BTW, Zelda is soooo sweet.

Updated mine no problem too, and have already bought F-Zero from the store. I used a 2000 point Wii card to do it, but then was able to buy another 2000 with my credit card. The prices seem really, really high though. $8 for F-Zero is pretty steep given it's age.

And why are there so few games in the store? They're just emulated so why isn't it packed with tens, if not hundreds of the things? And why no Super Mario Bros or Super Mario World!

That aside, lovely system, so well designed, I just wish I had a component lead...
