Yeah, Revolution would be a name only the gamers would really lock onto. They probably have it worked out fairly nicely so that they have a short catchy name that they hope can become part of people's vocabulary the same way "Ipod" is and is strange sounding enough to make people ask about it (and remember it).

Ipod doesn't have spelling that requires an explanation. It doesn't mean urine either.

Better yet, gets them talking about the Wii for longer.

I'm pretty sure I'm retreading very very old ground when I say that I don't think people talking about how cack the name is does anyone any favours.

When it comes down to it, it's just a name. If the machine delivers, the crappiest name in the world isn't going to hold it back. If it doesn't, the marketing genius of getting people talking about how crappy the name is isn't going to save it.

Although, maybe the Dreamcast punches a hole in that theory - good games, crappy name...hmmm...

Whenever I find myself talking to non-gamers my excitement is about "the new Nintendo". I can't bring myself to say "wee".

I got used to the name, although I still think the name is a bit silly though.

I`m sure some folks would have been thinking Eye Pod when they first heard it mentioned.

Ipod is a very geeky name, but at least it's catchy.

Wii just sounds weak, every time I say it, it makes me cringe. Not because of any childish connotations, but simply because it doesn't sound exciting or strong!

Obviously.. a name doesn't mean a whole lot if the machine delivers what people want.

I can only imagine Wii sounds cute to some people, and very Japanese, but I don't feel that vibe at all!

Lots of people don't get or feel much for the name ' Dreamcast ' , but I understand the name, and really like it. It's a gutsy name, but also ambient, and really appeals to my inner-gamer!

You can't really know they've let you down if you haven't even got one....
I personally feel little enthusiasm for the Wii. All I'm doing is expressing my view of things, nothing more!

I don't like the name, and I don't like the vibe Nintendo have attached to the machine. It seems like Nintendo have abandoned a lot of their core-base, and have marched into mainstream-land, ready to kiss arse!

People often mistake Nintendo for being a creator of sickly cute games, and little else, but that is wrong, and very shortsighted.

My favourite Nintendo series is F-Zero. I love Pilotwings games too, and Mario World isn't sickly sweet, but more an ambient piece of platforming genius. Super Princess Peach is far more sugary and hollow imo!

The Wii exists, I have to live with that, and maybe I will enjoy some of the offerings for it, but for anyone to say the machine is perfect, everyone loves it, and all Nintendo fans are happy, is totally wrong!

I would have personally loved a more powerful machine. Something that is a big-step-up from the Gamecube, but maybe not PS3/360 power, though 360 power is now more affordable.

To have a new shiny impressive F-Zero, a breathtaking Pilotwings, and a Mario game that blows my mind, would have been much more exctiting than a Gamecube with a wand controller!

The Wii seems like a happy light snack, compared to the big deep feast I would love to gorge on.

The new Zelda is the big hitter, even though it's a Gamecube game. Things may improve with time, but for now, I'm far from impressed, but not against the machine enough not to buy one!

I will be buying a Wii!

That's an abuse of the bold tags if ever I saw one.

It's not what I would want in my perfect dream world, but in reality it's a nice little machine, with the potential to deliver some fun to my life!

I've been reading a lot about it, and peoples opinions, including magazines like EDGE, haven't really inspired me, or given me a good vibe about the machine.

This less than stellar enthusiasm for the machine from quite a lot of people, is justified to degree, and sad because I would love the new Nintendo machine to be breathtakingly good!

I will buy one because I like to experience every aspect of gaming, but my gut feeling is the machine won't be a favourite.

Just my thoughts... I don't wish to get people down. If someone genuinely loves the machine, why would they care about my view of things?

I've recently started doing that, because people seem to skip over things, and not really absorb peoples posts. I assume the ' Bold Tags ' get peoples attention... which you have proven!

So just slightly contradictory then - if that was the case then why would you go out of your way to bold things for the sake of it in a bid to get people to read them?

Please don't do it. It's just annoying.

If your posts aren't interesting enough that people want to read them without you trying to be gimmicky then you'll just have to deal with that.

And once again Leon, stop taking this thread off topic please.

Wii would never EVER be as bad as Xbox. I think its ok the name now, still when give it some thought a bit of a shocker. Revolution was just plain, dull and did need to be changed .. but could soon be forgotten in a year. Just like PlayStation pretty geeky and first but right on the money now.
