    Ps3 upscaling ps1 & ps2 games!

this could be old news but.......

I put Gradius V into my new ps3 last night, and guess what the output signal was 480p over HDMI. Treid a few more and all were displayed in 480p! Tried playing Raiden dx (ps1), and guess what, the output signal on the tv was 480p Nice!

Apparently it only does this over HDMI, it was odd trying Battle Gear 3 in 480p, it looked a bit dodgy.
There's a thread over at GAF that suggests PS2 games look better via component than HDMI! My Wii just arrived so I'll have to dig it out the thread later

480p isn't upscaling them per se tho like the 360. I want some old PS2 classics in 720p!

Very few TV's accept 480i over HDMI as it's not spec, so it's really not suprising the PS3 forces them to 480p.

This is the best solution though as deinterlacing a 480i image is the hardest thing the TV's signal processer can do which introduces latency with everythnig at 480p there will be little latency which is great.

Out of interest, how is the emulation at running Gradius V ? Its one of the best (IMO) games on the PS2, along with Rez, so I'm interested to see how they fair.

I don't know about upscaling but Final Fantasy XII looks absolutely terrible on the PS3 at 480p. Ugly pixellation everywhere.

I take it you are HDMI'ing. I can only use component, so I am expecting **** all above 480i for just about everything (PS3 games and Blu-Ray)

Be thankful, HDMI + PS2 game = Rubbish.

I find this surprising. When I captured this game, I noticed that for 90% of the time, the game ran at 29.97fps, meaning that the two interlaced fields meshed together to produce a progressive image. So you'd think it would look pretty good at 480p. Heigh-ho.

The HDMI image is displayed at 480p, it just makes the image look like a pixelly old Famicom game.

If component's better then I'm getting a component lead just for FFXII. What a pain!
