Really enjoying the religious outrage part of this thread.

I can't believe id-republix is serious in his comments about Manchester Cathedral - to me it's blatantly obvious the CoE were completely out-of-touch, doddery old clergy in protesting about its use in the game. I think it's quite fair to characterise them as "trolling for free publicity" when they made a fuss about it.

Cathedrals & churches have always been portrayed in film & fiction - surely there's a scene in A Bridge Too Far where they're all holed up in a church? - and it doesn't bear comparison with Muslim sentiment that has always been strict about this sort of thing. I'm not saying that death threats against Danish cartoonists are OK, I just think that removing the content from the game is the polite & respectful thing to do.

    More importantly:
is there any confirmation of that a demo is / will be available for this game?
sorry if the answer is well-known and I've missed it, but I don't fancy reading all 50-odd pages of this thread.

      My views:

      a) Sony shouldn't have recalled the game and pushed it's release date back. A patch was the safest option, or they could have just given the whole affair the RFOM treatment, especially as the song itself was licensed (AFAIK) from another artist and therefore the game itself was only trying to mimic its original source. Nothing wrong with it, and over 95% of the people that play this game probably wouldn't have noticed it either.

      b) What I find more disappointing is the attitude of some of the people posting within this thread, hurling abuse towards an entire religious group because a videogame was delayed for a week or so. How would you guys have felt if Sony simply decided to push the game back a week to iron out some of the bugs? Or perhaps to coincide with a better 'marketing opportunity'?

Oh BTW, I'm also a practicing Muslim, and have this game in my preorder list since it first went up for order.....

To me, those would be more valid reasons (well, the first would at any rate). Genuine abuse towards a wide group of people isn't acceptable, indeed. (Edit: but unless I've missed it, I've certainly not seen any abuse in the thread?)

There are various parts of entertainment products which I either find offensive or don't agree with. One of them is a film which I've helped release on DVD! I don't expect those things to be changed for me. They are what they are.

Outrage is defined, generally speaking, as anger, rage, frustration, not uncommonly found side by side with abuse and vilification.

Religious outrage on this thread, you say.

Not a single Muslim member of this board has shown any outrage. Or rage. Or anger. There has been no 'religious outrage'.

You see, this is what is disturbing. On the other hand, the abuse, hateful comments and vilification from those on this thread saying 'Muslims this, Muslims that' - are liberally on tap.

          Really, this was Sony's decision.

          It is a video game.

It is a delay of a week.

It is one song removed, not content banned.

          A little perspective, perhaps.

Frankly, I'd like to say to all of those (I am not referring to Strolls, here) who are pouring on the hate towards Muslims that I am sure you hardly know any Muslims in your real life, if at all.

I find it amusing that you think we are so alien we would not be on a gaming board. We are here just as you are, we participate in and enjoy all that you do on this board. Compare our behaviour on these boards to what you condemn all of Muslims as - hypersensitive psychotics, 'morons'. How have we reacted? How did you expect us to? What the devil are you to do with us? We're right here, with you!!

Honestly, even when Muslims put up small, formal protests to games like Muslim Massacre people like the ones abusing Muslims en masse are not happy. Fair enough - 'can't please everyone' goes both ways.

Legions of those saying far worse about Muslims on other sites about the delay on LBP will be snuggling up with this cutesy game and enjoying its warm and snuggly world - all the while harbouring such profound hatred in their hearts for an entire group of people...

          That is profoundly disturbing.

I cannot wait for the damn thing to come out and be the end of all this, and that I will do - there is nothing more to be said here. The game will come out and this will, on the surface, go away.

Fact of matter is that Sony & MM decided to take the concerns seriously if they wanted to they could have went ahead with release anyway but they wanted to respect these concerns. It isn't for anyone else to say what Sony & MM should have done as they know what is best for their product. The ranting that I'm seeing is simply childish..
I find personal insults childish mysef thats why I refrain from them its a difference of opinion just like religion is. Your also assuming way too much their as I never said my life depended on anything you did so please refrain from personal attacks m8. My life depends on hard drugs nothing else each day

Im getting it probably tommorow (should have come yesterday but its delayed in post) so thats got nothing to do with it it never was. I knew already about the 1week delay 4 hours before it broke but at the time was trying to dig out the reason why so decided to import it so job was done and dusted and it sent way before I found the news on this (I did some digging on PSN and found the post).

For me it was its the way they have gone about it what irritates me it just needed a patch done quietly. They didnt even check with the muslim community first and get their opinion on it and I actually feel that creates negative pulibicity towards muslims which i disagree with strongly.

It started out via a post on PSN USA network forums from a muslim that had played it and brought it to the attention and then a mod closed it nobody else. It all started basically from a forum post.

I personally would rather Sony have asked the muslim community for their response on this instead of creating some knee jerk reaction over it.

Regarding RFOM and my post earlier. That was a place of worship a cathederal for crying out loud and you no what nobody gave a toss. Their was a backlash from the church and it didnt get pulled and redone with it missing due to sensitive issues na we all sat back and said blow aliens all to hell. The argument not to recall on RFOM being too much to just patch is bollox if it upsets a religion. And this is whats bugged me with LBP. Its a 2yr old song that never got banned and is considered perfectly acceptable. They havent asked anyone in the muslim community for guidance on it they panicked and recalled it. To me that created negativity for no reason.

I just think religion shouldnt be in games. Their a media for fun and relaxation not preaching crap. I honestly dont know why the all never got together one day and made a template fake religion they could all use (or a few for figthing over) and then problem solved no offence to anyone.

The saddest part is its a beautifull looking/playing game the whole family can enjoy and at the moment thats been lost.

Peace to everyone whoever you are

I agree to a certain extent with you Dazzyman, I wouldn't want to be playing Wii Bowling and have the tutorial pop up saying 'line up your ball and trust in the lord', but then I wouldn't want to be doing the trench attack run and not hear the inspirational words 'use the force'.

Correct, really don't like the way Sony has done this, it seems they didn't even step back to look at the big picture, it's a track that has been on sale for a couple of years, written by a muslim guy, the phrases didn't even say something like 'all muslims are arseholes' etc.

You get dickheads like this whingeing all the time, remember years back when the BBC were showing Terminator 2 for the first time, it was being screened at 10pm or some such and some people were complaining about the violence and the effect it could have on children - eh? The fact that kids should have been in bed, it has already been on Sky, released on video and the Beeb were showing a 'cut' version, didn't seem to matter, and if you are concerned about the violence simply don't watch it.

All religious groups have them but it seems muslims have more than most - though that could simply be because the media latch onto anything anti-islamic whenever they get the chance and don't report anything else.
For example there are quite a lot of aircraft incidents but they go unreported - until there's a serious crash like the Spanair one recently then the media turn every one of them however small into a huge disaster waiting to happen/avoided etc.

I see a backlash coming in the form of anti-islamic level's and also ones aimed at the guy who started it - shame really for the former, not so much for the latter.

check my posts and you will see I love games all I'm saying is that people need to be a little bit more mature especially when people already know that games slip their release date all the time for this reason or that the other. At the end of day has been delayed by a week which is nothing compared to what it would have been if they had found something like a class A bug.

Japanese version was always scheduled for 30th/31st, I'm not very clear on if anything has changed here or not.

                                Morons quite frankly.

Sorry for the rant but they really are.

Exactly, and that was my first point. Sony have made a bit of a booboo by delaying this game and although unintentionally, have probably done more bad than good for the muslim population in general. Anyway, hopefully this now gets a proper release with some added content and we can put all this behind us.

Oh and on another note, I'm (pleasantly) surprised that this sort of discussion has been allowed on here. I know that some forums wouldn't have allowed it, and probably exercised their draconian powers to either censor this thread, or completely close it. Yay for NTSC-UK
