Wonder if that's why the game keeps getting pushed back, so they can add in a single player? I don't remember that ever being mentioned before anyway.

A lengthy hands on with the game itself as well as some of the creation tools (Pre-alpha). I get the impression there's been a shift in the balance of the release version of the game as it mentions in there that there will be a full length 'campaign' as well as obviously downloading UGC from PSN.
It also mentions a little about how the music will change dynamically with level progression (Not sure if this is something you can control in level creation though).

Watched that earlier. I'd not planned on getting a PS3 for a while, so not been following this game other than seeing a screenshot in Edge. Today I've been watching all the vids I can. This looks amazing. If it was a Nintendo game people would be rubbing themselves up against their monitor
The characters look a little floaty to me, a little slow, but I have no doubt it'll play superbly, the interviews show they're taking a lot of care on this, and I think there's a lot riding on this for Sony.
The level building looks amazing, just so versatile, I hope it supports a keyboard and mouse for us level makers.
Graphics are stunning, the lighting and shaders / materials are... well just "wow".
YouTube integration as well I understand! This game will be massive.

thing I'm thinking about with user content is around the quality of it against the shear quantity
there were 250,000 monsters created on a couple of days on spore so imagine flicking this on and being faced with that amount, I know they plan some form of user rating and it may settle down over time a bit but most of it will be garbage and will you get bored quickly hoovering up levels and playing them for 10 secs before binning them ?

I think you're right, it's going to settle down over time. Initially there will be a load of crap, but as time passes and the genuinely good content is consistently rated highly then it should be easy to get worthwhile new content.
If the tools are as straightforward as they say (Which they seem to be from what I've seen) then it really does look like anyone can create. When you consider that the tools are often the barrier to creativity (Unless you're me... in which case I can usually work the tools but don't have an ounce of creativity!) then hopefully this is what we've been waiting for.
