i also tend to only buy games from one region for each machine so as to keep my collection consistent. ie all my Xbox and 360 games are PAL, and my PS2, GC and Wii games are US-NTSC (no Canadian, half french games either thankyou).

With that, I'm a little more flexible.
I don't mind mixing regions if the game is region free - I have a variety of region games for my 360, cause they'll all work on my console.

But for PS2, GC etc, I stick to NTSC-U games even though my consoles are modded, as that just avoids complications later (I can now use them on my US PS3 and Wii, for example).

I don't mind Canadian games either, never been fussed.

I'll buy anything from anywhere, any type of box art, any region, as long as it works on my console that's all I worry about! I'd probably buy a cheaper version of a game with crap box art over a more expensive version of a game every single time (cheap bastard that I am ).

It's probably because I don't collect and sell almost everything after I've finished with it, I have very little interest in what a game looks like on my shelf. As long as it works, I'm happy. Although, I do hate it when a game box has defects (a broken hinge, ripped plastic, etc), and I'll hunt down blank boxes to replace a shoddy one, but that's a slightly different area.

However what I can't understand why do companies release Fifa 2002 (Sport games especially) on budget format 2 or 3 years later than original release. I mean do people actually buy Fifa 2002 instead of 2006 or whatever.

So basically, I was talking to my friend about Final Fantasy and we both thought it would be cool to own 6/7/8/9 on PSX in their original cases. Upon further inspection, these things go up on eBay for 30 quid each meaning that would be 120 quid just for those 4 games - leaving the older and newer games still to buy.

So I said - 'what about platinum?' and he said that the Platinum covers look rubbish and the disks dont have the original print on them which looks really good. So now I have it in my head that if I ever buy all these games they MUST be non-platinum but I cant seem to justify spending 120 quid on 4 games for PSX.

Now this is not really about playing the games because Ive already played them. I just don't happen to own them anymore and would like to re-purchase them for collection purposes - so Im stuck as to wether I should spend 120 on 4 games from the 1990s or to go Platinum and get them all for 50 quid.

I also dont understand why they have to put all that Platinum stuff on there. Can't they just put an easily removable sticker on the games which are Platinum. Also, I dont get how a game that is Platinum is considered rare and sold for 30 pounds in its original state. Surely if a game is Platinum it means it sold a truckload of original copies in the first place, so how can they be rare?

What are your views on Platinum when buying games? Do you spend the extra money for the original? Do you go as far as to buy only sealed original games? Or do you not care and will buy the cheapest possible just to get hold of the game and play it?

Agreed. Platinum or Greatest Hits is fugly. I would never settle for a budget label. I always buy my games before they reach platinum, and I'm willing to pay more for a non-plat.

Btw, I have a sealed copy of FF8 US original, from 9/9/99 still if anyone wants to buy it.

im anal about re-releases too, hence I own 2 PAL copies of FF7, first one I had was platinum - but for some reason I hated it being on my shelf. Mind you my minty original version was £5 from CeX so I guess thats not too bad.

I dont mind some Japan re-releases as the re-release label doesnt take up 90% of the box and have a horrible discs.

US Greatest Hits as Shakey_Jake33 arent too bad, but i'd always go originals.

on the otherhand, if its a game that i'd play but wouldnt deem it as collection worthy - then I would get the cheapest I could find, even unboxed....

Sometimes you are backed into a corner because of extra content, Fable - The Lost Chapters and Ninja Gaiden Black spring to mind, no choice but to buy budget if you want the extra stuff!!!

I bought Ninja Gaiden instead of Black purely because i didn't want a budget game.

You know, a couple of weeks ago, I was the kind of person who wouldn't buy budget releases unless they were much cheaper, i'd be willing to pay £10 extra for a normal release. Now I realise how rediculous it is.

I'll buy what I can get, I do prefer originals when the budget release cases really do look ugly, which they often do, but i'm not willing to fork out much extra, a couple of quid max.

I guess with some games, it might be worth sourcing out an original, if its the sort of game that's going to go up in value mind you.

The original PS2 platinum boxes looked fine for what they were trying to do IMO, while the newer design looks terrible...

Yeah, I thought the original PS2 platinum boxes looked decent, pretty clean and simple, and they actually looked Platinum in colour, or Silver I guess, whatever.

But err, the later version are pretty **** looking. Everything looks cheap and it's just dark grey now, which doesn't make a great deal on sense. Though maybe it just catches the eye better when it's up on a shop shelf next to EA games.

I buy Platinum though, so it can't bother me that much.

Just bought 7 and 8 off eBay - not too expensive - definately not the 30 quid that I stated in my first post so I'll take that back. But Platinum is still ugly

I used to be rather anal about only purchasing non-budget releases, but lately I've found myself not caring as much. I'd obviously rather have the original version, but if there's a huge price difference then I can live with a crappy cover.

This topic is hilarious. Not buying games that are cheaper because of the artwork.
I couldn't give two ****s. I'd buy it if it was a good game, even if it just came in a black box with the title printed on it.

If a Games any good i actually throw away the case and just keep the DVD/CD in a Carry Case.
