I first got online with Xbox live by the time of the 360 release, and got my username Uteena back then.
Whenever I'm in a game with English people, I'll just cut off the microphone on my headset. If I'm playing mainly with other Norwegian friends, I wont care if other people hear my female voice, because they wont understand what I say, and I don't really have to respond either.
But whenever I actually play with english people and speak during the game, either people will ask how old I am (probably assuming I'm a 12 year old boy) or ask among each other "is Uteena a girl?" or something along those lines.
Also I found that if people know I'm female, they will either "forgive" me if I do bad only because I'm a girl (which I don't fancy), or be all "omg I got that bitch lolol", or if I do good say that they went easy on me becasue I'm a girl or be "surprised" that I did good, or something like that. Honestly I don't like any fuzz about it at all, I just want to be an equal player.
(I guess Halo 2 is the game where this is most recognisable, because that's where most people actually use their headsets to "socialise" during the game and the matchmaking.)

When I selected my username, I didn't really spend much time deciding on the name. I've used Uteena online for many years, and also earlier online in World of Warcraft, and never really though about the fact that it's more of a female name than male. Actually, if I don't speak, most people wont even say enything about it, so guess it was an OK decision.

I remember running into a few female gamers on Mechassault when it was new. Since then though, I don't think I have.
