So Zelda TP and the epic 3rd Prime title aren't mainstream?
While I agree that Wii Play isn't that good, there's nothing inherently wrong with pick up and play games and to call 'em "not proper titles" just sounds stupid to me.

Something like Wii Sports is gaming in its purest and most unaltered form.

That's how it always works. If we look list of PS2's best selling games, most of the titles on the list are crap like Need for Speed Undergound or 007: Agent Under Fire. It is shame, but mainstream has had always quite "odd" tastes.

Yeah I see your point. But this thread is about "Wii - what is keeping the demand so high?"

I was just making the point saying without Zelda and Metroid (games that we've bought the Wii for) The Wii would still be selling.

Review of cooking mama coming very soon btw.

The Wii is currently my most played console, I'm on a wonderous rotation of Eledees, Trauma Center and Mercury. Three brilliant games that are either getting slated just for arriving late, or going unnoticed. Each of these feature gameplay that's greatly enhanced by unique control, they just wouldn't be as good on other systems.
Absolutely. Eledees, in particular is IMO one of the best games currently available for the Wii and I find it quite galling that it has gone largely unnoticed. The beauty of Eledees, of course is the fact that it could not be done on the other consoles, rendering their technological bombast somewhat superflous and, I daresay impotent. The same will happen with future Wii games once things finally kick into gear, just as they have done with the DS. Someone also mentioned Mario Strikers earlier; this is another solid title that's not truly getting the attention it deserves.

Wii detractors have a habit of conveniently ignoring titles like these when they bang on about party games and fads. It does get rather tiresome seeing the same unfounded claims and specious arguments brought up again and again every few months in threads like this (hence my earlier "insightful" yawn). Claims and arguments that completely contradict what's happening in the sales charts, no less.

Yeah true. If the Dreamcast had EA's support the console might have had a better look in at the time.

Now ex Sega man Peter Moore work for them.

                  QFT!

Oh and for anyone who is interested, Eledees is a mere £24.99 at Argos and on the 2 for £40 offer along with games such as Red Steel so anyone umming and ahhing over it I'd highly recommend giving it a look. It kinda urinates all over the "nothing uses the Wii controls properly, they're just a gimmick!" argument, which is actually quite probably why it's so conveniently left out of discussion.

mmm. What is keeping the demand so high? That's easy, the console is for the mainstream.

Anyone with that system knows that there are only 2/3 games worth bothering about.

                        Fixed

That is a "lie", because I have been quite happy with my PAL Wii, and I'm purely singleplayer.

But to be fair, being the biggest Nintendo fanboy in the World your view is hardly unbiased is it?

the sad thing is lots of people buy things based on name not quality which is why most EA games sell well.

Still I also think the Wii sells well becuase the adverts show that you get to throw your arms about like a muppet alot.

Personaly I bought mine for the virtual console... Super Paper Mario helped sell me too.

I own one (US), and yeah i'm bored. Listen to any podcasts recently (1up, game theory show, etc) and you'll hear how many gamers (not the mainstream demographic) have "dusted" down their console because a new firmware download was available.

Let's be serious here, take off your Nintendo hat for a second, look at the situation and you'll know it's not a very good one regarding games at the moment.
