I still hold out hope for the Wii, Sure I've only finished Zelda and cant be arsed with many other titles, sure Paper Mario was crap - but the best is yet to come, its far too early to judge. My only concern is what is there after the usual list (Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3, Smash Bros and RE: Umbrella Chonicles) for perhaps more 'commited' gamers.

In all fairness I knew what I was getting when I brought the Wii, a console simply not suited my normal needs but something different and interesting - so far it's fair to say I echo some other forumites comments by saying the machine's control method feels clunky and out of place, but it's so new I guess the dev's are still understanding the system.

Basically im just saying chill out, things will shape up in the end.

I have not bought a Wii or a PS3. In fact I only bought a 360 on a whim, and haven't played it anywhere near as much as most owners.

I will be buying a Wii at some stage - probably at Christmas - when Mario Galaxy is out. It was the only title I was interested in, aside from Metroid and with all the negative comments made about the lineup this year, I think I made a very wise choice. I played Zelda on the GameCube, and don't think I missed out on much that was worth £200.

In it's defence, I think that many of the comments which are being made about Nintendo deserting old-school gamers, were also made about the GameCube, early in it's life, re: short but sweet games such as Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin.

        Wow, that's just.... odd.

In other news, Satoru Iwata said in a speech today that Nintendo has 45 Wii games in development, and 79 DS games...! No idea when these will start arriving or what most of them are, but it certainly looks like there won't be a lack of software. He also apparently said many of these are proper 'gamer' games.

Surely there must be a new Pilotwings for Wii amongst that lot... Surely!

Well, with the sales the way they are (and showing no sign of dipping in the near future) developers have been forced to look at the Wii as the most potentially profitable console to develop for. Not to mention the cheapest. We're likely to see a slew of exclusives in a year or so, much like the DS.

Which brings me to one other point: slagging off the mainstream.

Chaps: let's grow up a little, eh? The introduction of a new audience means a proliferation in the genres available to us as gamers. Different tastes demand different experiences after all. We've spent far too long playing as comically macho space marines in worlds containing 100,000 shades of brown.

Did you really think 5 years ago we'd be going gaga over a lawyer sim and a game based on omniscient male cheerleaders? Did we ever imagine our girlfriends were ever going to be excited as us about a console launch?

I honestly think the Wii is going to be good for the industry as a whole. It's already broken plenty of barriers with an (admittedly poor) software line-up. Just imagine what could happen when the AAA releases trickle out.

Just a shame NoE remains as useful as a second-hand can of dinosaur repellent.

Personally i think its great fun playing Wii Sports after the boozer with a load of mates, but on your own its a different matter. I feel a right tit trying to navigate Zelda late at night,so quickly move to a 360 fps and the Wii gets left redundant.
Just ordered off of The Boy Murray GC Zelda Twilight Princess,as the Wii one feels like a game designed for 'someone else'. For me,a 32 year old jaded gamer, i feel like im wasting time when on the Wii,when i could be finishing one of the many 'proper' games i have for the other formats.

I think the Wii is a stroke of genius. Maybe not for the hardcore gamer such as us forum members but we probably represent low single digit figures of sales.
From people I have spoken to, many have said friends and family members are using the Wii where they wouldn't have use a console in the past.
This may not be great for us but for Nintendo it is a life saver as they have been relying on Gameboy sales to keep the company afloat for a while.
Given time the Wii will come into it's stride and the people who are selling them now will re-buy when the time is right.
Sony have dropped the ball and will pay severely if it is true that the Playstation division was propping up Sony corp. Although I'm no Sony fan this will also be bad for the industry in general.

Oh and Nick I loved TP on the cube. It just felt right

Why are you so desperate for Sony and the PS3 to fail?

I haven't heard one good thing from you towards them and it seems that you are one of the few people on here who keep going on and on about how good the Wii is right now when most of us think otherwise.

I don't believe companies should have success by default, they should have to earn it. This time around Sony are simply too late to the market and with a product which gives gamers nothing the 360 doesn't. The ridiculous comedy price tag and Sony's breath-taking arrogance are the icing on the cake.

Nintendo on the other hand have dared to innovate and come up with something completely unique. As I've said before I also think it's great to see the last surviving true gaming manufacturer back on top.

How are Nintendo EARNING success? Ok YOU have a non-EU machine but the ones you BLAME for having an EU machine have nothing to play, even a PS3 has some games with some depth to play. Even the people who are enjoying their Wii's will most of time add "When my mates are round"...How are they earning success exactly, by not bothering with an entire set of countries? They doing the opposite in fact, as usual they are earning entire countries comtempt.

You forgive Nintendo EVERYTHING but moan about other companies for everything else.

Maybe the "last surviving game manufacturer" should start putting some bloody games out then? Jesus, you constantly skirt that issue by saying either "The games are coming" (yeah, IF you are a US/JAP Wii owner) or "It's your fault for buying a EU Wii". Neither of which address the actual problem!

Just because it's unique? How many party games are out at the moment? Games with mini-games in them? Zelda is just about the only game with any substance to it.

I'm not looking to pick a fight with you Kotatsu, but you seem awfully blinkered toward Nintendo whereas for me, it's not about companies, it's about what they give to me the consumer.

They're earning the success by doing something original and capturing the public's imagination. As I mentioned a few posts up they also have an incredible number of games in development, so this current lack of software isn't going to last forever. The Wii is following exactly the same path as the DS, and I don't think anyone can complain about the DS' line-up anymore. Maybe I just value innovation more than other people, but I do think it's great when originality is rewarded, as it often isn't.

As for games with depth, well there's certainly more than just Zelda. Paper Mario is an obvious one, there's also the likes of Red Steel and a ton of multi-platform stuff. Clearly though it needs more and will get more.

For the umpteenth time : Paper Mario is not out in the UK yet.

Red Steel I found to be absolutely ATROCIOUS, one of the worst FPS games I've ever played.

ANYONE who chooses the Wii version of a multiplatform game is for my money, a complete and utter fool. Graphically inferior, no online modes, controls that weren't intended.

Also, the list of "coming soon" games to me looks pretty bad as well, only about 4 I'd buy and only Animal Crossing/Paper Mario are definite buys. Animal Crossing for the wife, Paper Mario for me.

The difference between the DS and Wii is the DS is handheld. The Wii's controls will get boring after the 50th party game/mini game in my opinion.

Nobody is desperate for Nintendo to fail at all. We are all owners of the console who are extremely disappointed with our purchases.

I can't imagine anyone wanting Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft to fail. There's room for all three and anyone wanting any of them to fail would be a foolish gamer cutting their nose off to spite their face.

Competition is good for the industry, Nintendo however regard the EU as a nothing ground, they don't give a ****, they never have and it seems there are gamers on this forum happy to accept that yet criticise Sony and Microsoft, both of whom have REGION FREE games and release dates of major titles within a week of each other, rather than the MONTHS Nintendo of Europe expect us to wait for game like Paper Mario, and for what exactly?

By breaking the boundaries that stopped a great deal (ie, the vast majority) of people from accessing videogames for a start? At the end of the day the sales speak for themselves, as the Wii is currently trouncing the 360 and PS3 and I cannot see this trend stopping any time soon.

I have had my Wii 6 months or so and already I would say I own 3 awesome games (Sports, Zelda, Paper Mario) and some decent games to supplement that list. For me that is plenty and I see many games on the horizon that will be great:
                              Fire Emblem
                              Mario Galaxy
                              Metroid
                              No More Heroes
                              RE 4 and UC
                              Smash Bros. etc

As it has been said many times before, no one expected the Wii to be as massively successful as it has proven so far. As a consequence many 3rd party developers have only recently stepped up serious development for the Wii, so unfortunately it is going to be a while before we are flooded with quality titles. And tbh the 360 and PS3 are hardly overflowing with amazing titles themselves. In recent months the PS2 has trounced them in terms of quality games, but I am way off topic now.

To each his own I guess. I'm enjoying my Wii and I have no reason to doubt it will really come into it's own over the next year. It's too bad you're not enjoying yours.

The EU issue we've been over many times. I'm not making excuses for NOE, I'm saying avoid them. As I think Charles said on here, everyone on this board knows that very well and so should not be complaining about EU release delays or the crippled EU VC. You can certainly say NOE shouldn't be this bad, but they are, so all any of us can do is avoid them.
