Ironically, 3.41 is the firmware you need for the jailbreak

Surprised it took them this long, to be honest. One of the most boringest tasks humankind has ever had to face is installing a PS3 update. 2010's officially here - next stop, hover cars!

    It hasn't

Was implemented in 3.41 before all this jailbreak nonsense.

Patch updates? Like the 360? So no more waiting around for a 100-something MB file to download and install? If the jailbreak has forced this kind of behaviour, colour me happy

It's like they already knew this hackery was imminent.

    Apparently 3.41 introduced patch updates...

That's something I'd happily pay for. It has been mentioned a few times in at shows and in interviews. It seemed to start about a year ago when Sony registered the trademark of PlayStation Cloud and there's been questioned asked about it in some of the questionnaires Sony has emailed to people.

Recent info seems to suggest the service has some sort of connection with PlayStation Plus but if that is true it could just be that people who don't subscribe will get less server space or something.

I really hope it does happen and with Valve already announcing Steam Cloud on the PS3 and I'd imagine that Sony would have had to be involved in that in some way.

Not really sure they would at the IFA to be honest, the announcement seemed to be more of an open announcement to the industry of future intentions. I think the announcement stating that it "will become increasingly available on a range of Sony?s portable devices" covers what it needs to at the show.

They're more than likely still assessing what devices will and won't be suitable for the service. I think it's unlikely they'll want to announce the product isn't going to be available on phones that they're still trying to sell to people at the moment.

Not really been that keen on music streaming services myself due to the drop in quality but I do find things such as LastFM invaluable when it comes finding new types of music to listen to that I may never have found otherwise.

Its worth noting that the film side of this service has been chargeable it's not unlikely that the music side will be too but that may be an optional charge like it is in LastFM.

Yeah, it's odd that. Lots of sites are reporting it'll be available on PSP as well, not sure if they're making an assumption or if the full press release perhaps mentioned it?

    EDIT: Example.
