Yep thats right smeg. Maybe it was something like the situation with Sega and the Wondermega, there being JVC and SEGA versions or more recently the Pannasonic Cube.

The CD drive could possible be at the right-hand side? Dubious though. It's funny how this reminds me somewhat of the Grey-coloured Saturn though.

like someone mentioned before, if they were working on the software a lot maybe it'd be easier to use a disc emulation device and connect it to this, saves burning any media - which might not be ISO9660 CD's.

Can you see they've deliberately obscured the view of the psx AV ports on the back with that cable? hmm

According to a contact of mine who saw one of the original protos for it back in the day, this looks nothing like what he viewed. Of course that isn't to say they couldn't have tried different looks and internal technology.

in my opinion the sexiest.. it could have been the white addon model he saw , which just looks like a white brick, pics of it are on assembler.

god I'd love that one above though

Having now slapped my head and realised this is the site co-run by another contact/mate of mine who is so into the Playstation it's unreal, I pretty much can state if he didn't honestly think it's the real deal, he wouldn't put it up. So take that as read from me

You're not joking - when you're buying up Spanish Language misprints of a FIFA title it seems a little odd to me. It's not philatelics.

Yeah Jason is the number one PS1 nut I know... and he doesn't live very far from my gf so we often meet up with him when I'm over in the US.

I can't find the more recent thread, so rise from your grave and here's an update on that Nintendo PlayStation that surfaced a few months back.

The translation is a bit shonky, but Retro Collect say:
"Although it?s been a long wait, further details and photographs of the infamous Super Nintendo SNES-CD / PlayStation prototype hardware have finally been revealed. Having taken the unit to the Retro.HK Expo for display, its owner has not only shown off the system?s insides and inner workings, but also found time for a quick round of Street Fighter II on the console too.

The most interesting aspect of this big reveal is that the CD-Rom drive and firmware behind it appears to be intact. Upon booting up the console without a Super Nintendo cartridge inserted, you?ll be shown an equivalent to the Sega Mega CD?s ?Please Insert Disc? screen. That said, it has been reported that the accompanying cartridge which contains the CD-Rom BIOS is faulty. Whether this is down to a software or hardware fault is yet to be confirmed.

This incredible discovery has been detailed at length over at HKGolden.com. Their report on the device features a wealth of photography showcasing the console. The more and more you look, the more fascinating it gets - as this is without a doubt the real deal. Fans of the Super Nintendo elsewhere have been examining the console?s mainboard too. Their inspections are suggesting that this CD-Rom enhancement offers no additional processing power to the console, meaning it?s nothing more than a Super Nintendo with a CD-Rom drive. Nevertheless it leaves us wondering what games and multimedia experiences we would have been enjoying had this ever seen the light of day."

It was just sold for $300,000 ($360,000 with buyer's premium that goes to the house) on Heritage Auctions.

A prototype of a never-produced video game machine colloquially known as the “Nintendo Play Station” has sold at auction for $360,000, setting a new record for the most expensive item of video game memorabilia ever publicly sold.

Yeah, I think that's a pretty disappointing outcome for him. He made quite the commitment travelling around the US with it, getting videos and articles about it wherever he could, letting people play it at conventions etc, all leading up to what ended up being a pretty disappointing sale - particularly compared to the offers he had supposedly had in the run-up to it.

A couple of weeks back I know Palmer Lucky had made some noise about leading the bid war at the time, if I were a betting man he'd be top of my list as the winner.

He played the game & lost, should've taken the first offer but he must have thought he'd get more. Think the fact that it was up for playing on killed the mystery hence it not going as high.
