Apparently Prologue is going to be FREE on PSN later this year, according to Gamespot.

Today, we sat in on a presentation hosted by Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi as he demonstrated some of the new features that will be present in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The game is due for release on the PlayStation Network as a free download later this year.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released on Blu-ray disc as well as PlayStation Network at the end of 2007, Sony said today.

Gran Turismo 5 will then follow in 2008, the release adds.

GT5 Prologue's retail/PSN release will feature more than 40 cars, tracks including Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka, reverse and alternative-route versions of each and 16-player online racing with global online rankings.

Sony and developer Polyphony Digital are also preparing "Gran Turismo TV" - an online channel on PSN packed with "some of the greatest content that motorsport, car manufacturers and TV has to offer".

Today's announcement also says to expect 1080p races at 60 frames per second, although it adds that replays will only run at 30fps.

The exact dates when the Blu-ray and PSN versions will launch aren't specified, but in taking a view it might be worth considering the fate of WarHawk - another Blu-ray and PSN release - which arrives on PSN tomorrow, 30th August, to be followed by Blu-ray edition (with game manual and other sundries) on 21st September.

            London City Track?

I dont have a PS3 and dont intend to for awhile yet but if Sony re-relase GT5 with these patches then I'm sold.

I have recently been re-playing GT4 and it really is the most comphrensive racer you can buy and it still looks lovely.

London has already been shown being used in the Photo Mode, it's probably a variation on that:

I really do hope the gameplay lives up to these shots.... I will cry for at least a month if it doesn't.

Gran Turismo 5 – the full title – launches in 2008. Until then, there’s enough ultra-realistic, high-speed racing in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on PS3™ to keep your accelerator firmly to the floor for the rest of the year.
                  EDIT:
Gran Turismo TV seems to be dealing with other stuff as well as replays and races.

It sounds almost like some sort motor racing TV shows and documentaries are going to be available via the channel too?

I thought GT-TV was just going to be for watching GT competitions and stuff like that!

We may get things like manufacturer documentaries and that sort of thing too. If it is that sort of thing, it's nice to see that they are doing something completely new at Polyphony.

If it ends up as good as it looks and as is described, then I will finally take the plunge and buy a PS3. I cant see any other games out before then that would make me consider one.

16 players, even better 16 ntscers, online in the same race would just be too good to turn down.

Why does this look so dull and uninspiring? I know it's London, but there so washed out, especially the second picture there.

Lol it made me smile when Yamauchi said in Leipzig that you would be able to see differences in the calibre of the leather inside your car depending on what car it is!

A little extreme for me, but it's his game and he's making it for himself rather than the rest of us I feel.

I guess that's because he can't afford a real car with high calibre leather interior.
