Over the years I've bought probably 100s of JP/HK games and then bought the English language versions later. I imagine it's not unusual for members of a forum called NTSC-UK to have done that.

It's an option people have if they want to do that. But also, the option is there to not do it for anybody who would rather not do it!

I only buy Japanese games. In very rare occurrances I buy a USA version if it is 100% unplayable in Japanese. I'll be buying the Japanese version of GT5 Prologue, and the Japanese version only. I don't see the point in buying it again just to be able to read the 50% of unreadable text, which doesn't affect the game anyway.

Why don't you guys just wait until the English language versions are released in that case?

I am so hyped for this I may have to import the BRD and then get the download later, but only if my saves transfer.
It will give me an excuse to import a DS3 at the same time

Have you not ever wanted a game as soon as possible and were willing to pay more to make sure that happened?

I know Prologue is not a full game as such but GT2 had more JP text in it than FFVII did which accounted for the lengthy delay in the US version.

It really depends just how much you want your GT games, the text may not interest you at all in this sort of game but for me, who really likes to get inside the game and the cars the text can be an important part of it.

It's obviously not for you and I'd never question that. The truth is that I'm more than happy to pay about ?45 for a JP download and a US/UK Blu-ray copy of the game because it's right for me to do that.

For me, it's good value for money. For you it's not. That doesn't make one of us right and the other one wrong, it just means we have different opinions.

Can I ask how much you were willing to pay for the DTL-T100000 which you claimed you only wanted to buy because you wanted to play JP games on a "uber-flashy looking PS2"? I know that they were going for about $20,000 new some time back and many people would perhaps feel just as confused about that as you would about people willing to pay ?45 for GT5: Prologue.

People just want different things and that really shouldn't be a problem for anybody on here...

I have, hence me only buying JPN games my entire life.

You'll have to start again with the English one no? Do you just want to be able to experience it in any form at first, then play it at length once you can understand it? Are you an incredibly impatient man? It just seems like a total waste of time and money to me.

£500 all-in John, for a fully boxed unit in mint condition. Quite cheap I thought.

That's what has me worried to be honest. I don't want to get the Japanese version (There's so much text in GT games), but if I wait for the PAL version will I be screwed for online play? I'm guessing we won't find that out for ages. >_<

With Prologue they have mentioned the GT My Page screen a few times and this suggests that it will be global as you will be able to view your friends GT My Page and see a real-time weather forecast.

This suggests that there aren't any international boundaries as it uses your PSN friends list and he's mentioned using it to invite people to race while in there:

My Page: When the game starts, a My Page screen will also appear. In the final version, Yamauchi hopes to include a friends list as well. There will be several background images for the My Page screen such as Tokyo and other cities, but will also include sceneries of both outdoors and indoors. There is also a weather forecast displayed so that other players will know which geographic location you are in and how the weather is there.

It's not confirmation but it certainly suggests that GT5: Prologue won't be locked.

It would make sense if it was locked to the buying account though like WarHawk was, so you'll probably have to play it using your JP/HK account.
