The Wii is looking like it'll be the next PS2 rather than the next DC. :P

      Welcome to non-gaming.
That's not the whole story though. Simplifying the game like that does it no justice and is akin to saying Resi 4 is simply:

      1) Watch cut sceen
      2) Shoot stuff
      3) Repeat

The joy in Viva Pinata comes from managing the eco-system and revealing the new pinata, like the joy in Sim City is in managing the economy and revealing the new buildings. As I said in the review, it's actually quite an old style of game.

To say it's non-gaming is just daft. You might as well say all management sims are non-games.

"He is a male. He is about as technically minded as an ameoba. He is very, very scared of going online for community. He's never played PC games online. He wouldn't know a Halo 2 clan from the hole in his arse - that comes from him avoiding games in college to take drugs and party and shag loads of women --so he's 27 or 28. He still loves to go out with the lads whenever his wife and kids allow, however reliving his student halls days is as unrealistic as being beaten off by the Queen.

"He accepts any form of gratification and couldn't care less how long it takes. The delivery of game demos to his hard drive via his broadband network confuses him, and he regularly phones the Indian call centre because his AOL has gone tits up. And he's somehow ended up with his profile online and he's rubbish at games, so he rarely attains (Xbox game) achievements. He'll stay up all night worrying about the constant stressors of life and watching telly. He would starve to death and get beaten to death by his wife if he bought one of them high-definition tellies. He'll go without food rather than not get ripped to the tits on cheap booze once a week and have a go on Wii Sports."

It is true though - that is my life. Look at my gamertag! I am crap at being on internet games.

I don't really understand that train of thought. A good game is a good game, shouldn't matter if it involves shooting people in the head, driving at breakneck speeds, managing an eco-system, lining up blocks in certain ways or whatever.

I've never had sex with a real lady - I've been too busy fiddling with my MTU. Although there was that one time when I was on work experience and the manageress at Sainsbury's touched my willy whilst she was moving a box of Pringles.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just that the sort of people inclined to play those games generally wouldn't be interested in something like Viva Pinata purely from a gameplay point of view. A lot of people just like playing certain genres or types of game (hence why names like FIFA, Generic Street Racer 13 etc are always in the top ten) as opposed to appreciating videogames generally. The sort of person whose appreciation of videogames transcends genres will probably always be in the minority.

Very true, but this sort of thing applies in other forms of entertainment eg) films and music. Arthouse films don't exactly have the average cinemagoer lining up around the block to pay money to watch them.

I have little interest in the 360 primarily because of the lack of percieved variety in it's lineup.

Yep, if a person doesn't like a particular genre or style then that's that - they don't need to justify their reason. For sure, people wouldn't like to be hassled into trying out other styles if they are happy with what they like.

And there's never a thing as a generically good or bad game - one person's great is another's trash.

I think a better topic title would be "majority of gamers narrow minded."

                            (obviously i don't mean here)

Yeah, perhaps. But the 360's been out quite a while now and while I feel it has the best games of all 3 next gen systems, it still doesn't have a very diverse library of software. But who knows, maybe the PS3 and Wii libraries will prove similar in 12 months time. We'll see.

Peter Moore said early on that "we(MS) define the platform" talking about VP - that's not succeeded (as yet.. hopefully there will be more esoteric games coming soon) so I think the demographic it appeals to is now saturated.

I know one 360 owner who even refuses to consider that DS might be a good platform!
