The Xbox 360 Elite PAL Pre-order Thread

Received an email from Game the other day which links to their preorder thread for the Elite. Release is August 24th.

Seeing as they screwed up my original Premium preorder 18 months ago I'm hesitant to use them for this. I swore I'd never use them again at the time.

However if other members see it up for preorder at other retailers please post here for comparison.

I'd also like to see whats the best Quidco deal I can get on it

And I don't want the thread to descend into Elite/360 bashing in general or moaning about being on your 17th 360. There are plenty of other threads for that

I reckon there'll be plenty of hardware to go round once the elite is released so i don't think there'll be a great need to preorder, we've done 2 orders in the shop i work in since they started and thats myself and another member of staff, my own was partly because i had the ?50 needed spare at the time so thought sod it why not, it's ?50 less i'll have to pay come august, as for deals i reckon we'll only find out about trade-in/bundle deals about a week beforehand, whilst i'm typing now though i'll ask a quick question, does the elite run quieter than the current console?

There wont be alot at all they are allocated as in the US and not many are being made to start

To be honest from my experience in my store so far has been that there is, in all fairness, very little interest in the elite machine. Most 360 customers have already bought their systems by now, and the growing consumer fear of the 3 red lights is just getting more and more justified by the media and the masses of faulty machines being returned recently.

The current 360 already outputs at 1080p. The difference between VGA and HDMI is, in all honesty, minimal from what I've seen so far. And the bigger hard drives will be available as accessory purchases. So I can see why the interest in the the elite simply isnt sparking in the minds of your average gamer.

If you haven't already got a 360 and are considering one, by all means, wait for the elite because it will be worth the money for you. But for the masses already owning a 360.....unless you're so hardcore you must always have the latest model of something....then I can't see why you'd want to bother.

If the elite was white i'd probably be tempted just for the extra HD space but a black machine doesn't interest me at all and my HDMI on my TV is taken up by my PS3 anyway so I'll probably keep my 360 and just get a bigger HD later in the year instead.

To be honest they should have just made it a whole new model that is quieter, more reliable, has HDMI output and built in HDDVD drive. I'd have snapped that up for sure.

I'd go Elite should my current (2nd) 360 die.

It is ?329.99 on gameplay and even that is expensive for just 120GB (that we won't use unless the Video Marketplace is available in Europe sometime in the not too distance future) and a HDMI input/output.

No Wi-Fi (?50-60 for the official wireless adaptor), no hardware revision (they could have at least tried) and the fact that half of the Xbox 360 accessories are available in a white colour only and will look out of place on the 'Elite' system.

A very disappointing 'upgrade' from my perspective and makes the recent 'Starter Pack' for the PS3 feel slightly cheaper (an extra controller and two games plus Wi-Fi built in and free online gaming).

Anyone buying any 360, elite or not is performing an act of lunacy at the moment. Christ, microsoft has even told us the console is borked out of the box.
Better to wait for the re-design , I say.

This thread is for people to discuss pre-orders, not for anyone to try and `educate` them as to why they shouldn't buy an Elite.

If people want to spend their money on it, then who is anyone here to stop them. And I'm sure everyone is well aware of the risks anyway.

Im still deciding between this and the halo 3 limited edition (if I could get a preorder), though I will probably pick up the elite because of the halo 3 red-rings, my only choice is to send it back to Microsoft :/
