    Heavenly Sword Demo

    WOW!!!

this game is crazy beautiful. it looks really nice and the backgrounds are breath taking.

the combat is at first shallow but then you get to grips with it and start learning the stances and how enemies attack.

the demo is really short and doesn't show anything you haven't seen but is an excellent taster for september

Gawd... This game's only marginally better than N3 for me I'm afraid. It is beautiful, but as I'm not one for learning combos and the like, I resorted to the usual button bashing to get me through the (short) demo. I did like the ability to pick up barrels/tables etc... but even that seemed to cause the character to flit across the screen eratically - hopefully something that will be sorted for the final release.

          Downloaded at last!!

I've had a few goes now and to be honest, I'm a little surprised how much there was to the combat. I was definately expecting the standard hit all the buttons and hope type of combat that you seem to get in these large scale brawl types of games.

Once you get the hang of the combat there seems to have a lot of control over your fighting style.

Lol I've just realised that I didn't really notice the graphics as I was playing!!! Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing???

I suppose it was a game that I was always going to get but I can imagine really getting into the combat in this when I buy it.

I'm looking forward to trying the second character though. I think it would have been good to have been given the chance to try some of the quieter one on one combat in the game to see how well it holds up.

Reminds me of Bujingai and using the girl in Genji 2. Crossed off the list
            Kept you waiting, huh?

Best way to describe it I think... the mechanics for blocking are going to take a bit of getting use to but what it is going to do is force you to not just mash buttons to perform attacks, you are going to have to be calculating and accurate to dominate at this and it just feels so good when you nail a combo, counter someone then launch into an aerial assault.

The aerial stuff is tremendous and if that gets expanded as you progress I will be very happy.

First impressions are VERY good, I just hope the length of the demo is not a reflection on the length of the game, hopefully Ninja Theory are holding it all back and just letting us taste a wee bit just now.

I was excited before.... I honestly cant wait now!!

Not sure what to think so far. The combat seems very basic, and it was incredibly easy to beat the enemies, usually just using one button too. Perhaps its set to 'Easy' so the game is very forgiving?

My other main gripe was the awful framerate (both slowdown and tearing) which is straightaway a turn off as the game is only 30fps to begin with. It made the animations and movement feel very glitchy and gave me flashbacks of Prince of Persia which suffered from the same problems.

                  N3>This

                  Which says everything. Very disappointing.

I still say it needs a jump button - I kept wanting to press one

A symptom of developers using the same ground rules for this genre perhaps??

After a few plays the lack of jump didn't bother me at all. Its a different approach to this kind of combat heavy game but it is a welcome one for me. Working the aerial stuff into certain stances and moves works nicely for me so as long as the game provies a suitable level of depth through the system it has I wont be complaining.

Fun to play, jerky as heck though. About covers it tbh.

It's also the first game I've played on PS3 (that I've noticed) with vsync issues.

Hmmmmm.... felt like a poor man's Gaiden really. No tearing problems though.

                            First time through was painful!

Second and third times I got to understand the stances and counters and it was more enjoyable.

Certainly not a game I will be buying at launch, but always nice to get a demo that confirms. It's one for Gaiden/DMC fans I guess. I'll give it a go when it's available used.

Graphically I feel it seems to be very "Sharp" like RFOM, but it seems to be missing some AA. I feel these sharp visuals are a bit cold for my liking. I also felt the ladies hair was very blocky and odd.

I've not noticed any either but it seems quite a few people have. Maybe it's down to certain combinations of settings/hardware?
