    pc engine cd-rom recommendations

Pc engine cd rom games - any recommendations?

I'm after Rainbow Islands (first cd rom game I saw running, must. have. this.) and Dracula X.

Others I'm interested in are Puyo Puyo, Fighting Street, Pang, and maybe R Type complete. Ys I & II would be nice depending on the language barrier.

I feel like I'm just scratching the surface though (never a good idea with cd rom games). There must be some more gems out there

Lord of Thunder and Gates of Thunder are two fantastic shmups, as is Gradius 2 Gofer.

Definitely just for the music. The rest of the game is a complete mess.

Rainbow islands was pretty poor on the PCE IMO.

I quite enjoyed a game called Kaze Kiri - can be a bummer to find though.

              boo again.

I'll just wear my rose tints I think (seen it, but never played it).

Dracula X is great. It's my favourite Castlevania (partly due to the fact it's probably the easiest )

Snatcher is an amazing PCE CD-ROM game, but it's in Japanese. Only the Mega-CD version was translated to English for a US release.

                    and a UK release

try Fatal Fury 2. if you like your fighters.

Dracula X is amazing far better than the Mega Drive and snes equivalents.

Yeah, Draula X is something I have to track down.

I can't really see it bettering Symphony of the Night, but it might be a fun, arcadey alternative

Saw the US release of Ys I&II lunch time, didn't realise there was an English language version.

Also Golden Axe, Cotton - Fantastic Night Dreams, and wierdly Minesweeper.

Noooooo how can you say that.

The PCE version of rainbow islands is the best version available on ANY home console. for starters its the only version that has all 10 islands and the true arcade ending. The megadrive version was truely crap.

Plus the PCE version has a cool save feature so you can select islands you have already completed and replay them. I can fully recommend the pce version if you can find a copy as its well worth getting.

Agreed. Also, I believe the PC Engine version has the alternative level 1 boss, 'Electric Fan' (and it's approaching fast!)

                            Space Fantasy Zone.

I've no idea how it is but I saw it on ebay once - with a ridiculously high starting bid.
