No I didnt get to play that one

One platform game I adore that springs to mind is the first Kaze no Klonoa on the PS1. The puzzles and layout were superb, it's such a relaxing game to play

Not to worry, it was developed very close to the end of the Amiga's lifecycle. It owed a lot to Turrican really, but was absolutely graphically beautiful at the time. I'm terrfied to look up screenshots, unless the Illusion is shattered.

      [sigh]

I love Klonoa as well, although I've only ever seen the PAL releases. I do prefer 2D platformers. Less seems to go 'wrong' with them in contrast to their 3D counterparts.

      I did enjoy Mario64, though.

I really enjoyed Mario 64 and SMS. However it must be said Mario 64 was a lot easier. I have put many hours into completing SMS with 76 shines, I only actually rented Mario 64 for 1 weekend back on its release and in about 12 hours playing time I gained 90+ stars.

Mario 64 was my first 'true' experience of 3D. It was like losing one's virginity to the most beautiful woman in the world. That deep deep feeling of happiness rests inside me forever

What? A fat plumber with sleezy facial hair, and an extremely limited vocabulary? Well... I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Strange, I actually found this mario game easier than M64 on the skill side of it, with the final boss being an absolute piss take. This may have something to do with my age when i played M64 as I'd just started to get into games in a big way then.

Overall I really liked most of SMS, with noki bay being the highpoint, but levels like the hotel really seemed to bug me for some reason. Still all these recent discussions have increased my interest in the game again so I'll go see how long it'll take me to lose interest.

I was sort of enjoying it and then something else came out and it ended up gathering dust. I really missed Mario's punch kick combo from Mario 64. That was so cool. Now I have to squirt and then double jump and pound...whatever. I enjoyed the rollercoaster, I'm glad I own it, but in terms of Mario games it is kind of weak.

SMW rocked! but i have no problems with the more recent Mario games, although i don't own M64 or SMS (i don't actually know why i don't....guess i'm a retard!) i like them all, they're both good games and the impression i got from SMS was just a sense of fun, i loved playing it, it's a great game, and those who mock it obviously havn't played it (or at least all the way through)....this game, despite few, small faults is still genius and always better than the likes of "Crash Bandicoot 'a 3D game' 4.6AGAIN" or whatever

I loved SMS, far superior to most other games released at this time.

It looked wonderful and I loved the hub. I loved it more than anything else at any point in the game. Just jumping about for hours.

I really enojyed it. I got over 80 shines - closer to 90 I think. I couldn't be arsed with the underwater levels like others.

Wicked game, I couldn't belive that I Spent 10 times longer trying to get to the final bos than I did beating it though!

I actually managed to get all but 4 blue coins in Mario Sunshine just by arsing around in levels and not rushing to the goal...

Having said that I totally went to gamefaqs to find the last few... I really enjoyed the "bonus" you get

Every time I died in Mario Sunshine I never felt it was my fault - I'm the sort of person who trains up hard to get good at games but this was just unfair! There was one level where I fell miles through the floor and had to reset to get out of it, there were far too many times when the view angle was the reason for failure. I did learn how to keep good control of the camera at all times but it still pissed me off.
You get me, SMS was a huge dissapointment imo.

I found SMS too easy. The only level I found hard was Yoshi's fruit adventure, and that was only because I climbed along the cliff bit instead of shooting the fish with yoshi.

I wouldn't mind a game with more of the retro levels. Those were great.

I had a love/hate affair with SMS but the fact that I finished with something like 96 shines probably tells you that I loved it much more than I hated it. It's my 2nd fave Mario game after Mario Bros 3.

Funny enough I didn't mind the blue coin collecting even tho I avoided J&D cos of the generic collecting stuff.

I would love a Mario SMS void level game where the whole game is set in void land.

I had 112 shines, then some complete git deleted the file (I had my GC up at school, 4 player games all day )

SMS was great, but the controls were far from wonderful. Running in one direction then altering direction and jumping (as necessary on the 'classic' style levels) resulted in a rather hard to control cartwheel, which wasn't that helpful when trying to stay on a constantly rotating block...

If it'd kept M64's controls then it would have been much less frustrating.
