i think the rental market is almost dead on its arse thanks to the availabilty of pirated dvd's internet rental being far more convienient and things like sky box office not being that far behind these days
piracey is rampant these days and I've lost count of the amount of people I've talked to that seems to have seen all this summers blockbuster despite not setting foot anywhere near a cinema.
It will be a shame to see them go as they were the only place localy without having to jump on a bus or train for picking up new release games as there store used to carry a decent stock of ps3 and 360 stuff,
but there new stock has been in steady decline for a few months now and there game rentals are all but noone exsistant this kind of explains why the store has gone to **** recentley also.

However, if anyone knows of any IT jobs for super talented .net analyst programmers in the Peterborough area, let me know

Fulfillment is the biggest area ( shipping orders for third party companies ), web sales were quite decent (though I'd expect to see a lot of cancels coming through now), sell-thru wasn't doing too badly and most of the stores losing money have been closed already. The rental side accounts for quite a small percentage in the grand scheme of things. A lot of people know about the stores, but getting the message out about the website is problem if you can't spend loads on advertising. As a going-concern Choices would probably make a good buyout.
Trouble is, the sell thru market is fierce, and margins are pretty small and so I'm looking for another job
So if anyone knows of Analyst Programmer role going in Peterborough or areas around there, then please PM me the details, as I reckon I'll be out of a job quite soon.Last edited by MartyG; 21-08-2007, 13:14.

We have loads of choices in our area. We have one in my town of Driffield and it ate all the other rental shops up within 6months and then put its prices up when dvd rentals became the norm. I stopped using them for rentals as who in their right mind would pay £3.75 for two nights rental when you can buy the discs for £10-£12 it went up even more recently and I remember saying to my parents I think their is something wrong as PSP stuff was getting sold off and their shelfs had no Wii games for sale (they had stopped restocking) and Malton shut overnight with no warning. I used to buy loads of games from them but the staff got very rude with me and wouldnt let me preorder games for release day but would other customers and they wouldnt entertain me when I would phone up and ask on release day for stock, wouldnt even give me the time of day when I tried to spend £350 on a PSP with load of games on launch day because the manager couldnt be bothered to get one down off the shelf to help us (am in a wheelchair) I complained and got told basically to f* off so that was that. So in my mind f* em bring back the back street rentals where I can get a dvd for £1.50 to £2.00 again. Its probably our town though as I always get trouble in my local town, even got a bank teller screaming at me for no reason in TSB
You know they even tried to do a tv shopping channel with Paul Ross hosting it? Was terrible and died within a few weeks.

Its a scarey place m8, its all the staff in our local one. I talked to the lass in Bridlington Choices about it when 360 came out (they had messed orders up in choices so I got one from game) she said she would sort it out for me as id not been back in as she managed their a couple of days a week and she made it 10 times worse. Head office where a right bunch of c's when they got involved and their attitude was not intrested if you dont like it dont shop their.
TSB was even worse, appointment for another account so I could pay carers to look after us and woman in their started swearing at me when I turned up for it and being abusive saying she was too busy to do appointments it was so bad customers walked out I ended up in tears and the local branch stonewalled me with local area manager saying it never happened and TSB refused to do a proper investigation. Wasnt until disabilty rights commision got involved and they requested the CCTV footage that TSB altered their attitude and paid a substantial donation to Hull high depenancy unit (where I was in a coma) as an apology. The stupid thing is the member of staff still works their and never got any trouble over it so I cant go in their and all the staff at my home branch of York where Im from said if they did owt like that it would be instant dismisallTo say I dont shop locally is an understatement as everywhere else is fine, this place is just well words fail me and Ive lived from Inverness to Portland island.

Dazzyman...I really am shocked!!!
I makes no sense that people be like that to other people whether they are customers or not. If I'd have been in the shop/bank at the same time I would have gone mad with them.
I imagine that if they'd done it to me I'd probably go into that bank often just to make that employee feel as awkward as possible due to having to face me every day. I'd take different friends in each time and make sure that he/she was pointed out in front of everybody as I explained loudly exactly what they'd done!
Anyway...I had used Choices a few times and had fantastic service myself.
