They were already selling stuff on the website mega-cheap. I placed an order Saturday, but I cancelled it today ... having seen the Fopp debacle, I have no great hopes of anyone riding in on a white horse to bail out another failing CD/DVD retailer - especially since the bottom has fallen out of the corporate finance market since then as well. And Marty, I would say you're right to be looking to jump ship asap.

I went into Fopp on Tott. Ct Road in that last week that they were open after going into administration, and were taking cash only. The staff looked miserable - and no wonder, sitting there behind the till having to take in all that cash and all the while suspecting (rightly, as it turned out) that they would probably not even get paid for their efforts.

Best of luck to both you and mrs fragmast3r in finding pastures new ... I really hope neither of you get burnt too badly by this whole thing.

Sorry for behaving like a drunken idiot but you should have rammed her to the floor and then caved her skull in!

Just had a reasonably aggrevating day at work and have no time for rude, idiotic people on both sides of customer service recently! (I've experienced both sides of the coin and I work in customer service myself, so.....)

The Local and Direct parts of the business have been bought by The Webb Group, so the website is going to survive.

That still leaves all the stores in a bit of a pickle mind.

There's three stores in my area; two just shut last week very suddenly with no warning (one day they were stocked, the next they were emptied and stripped of fittings). The other, larger, store is still operating though.

Is there a list on their site of stores, because when my local one (Salisbury) shut down last year there were bargains galore, so might fancy a trip to some of the in reach stores that are closing down if it will be a similar situation.

looks like the remaining 59 stores have been saved, so wifes job is ok for the near future, it does well so hopefully the new owners will keep it going,

hopefully your job is safe too martyg?

                  regards

the Bingley store has closed down as of this morning and I'm, quite shocked really as they have no competition and were the only place to get video games and dvds in our town, they were always really busy on a weekend and got a good selection of new releases 360 games, i got many a game from them on launch day sad to see them go.

Just walked past my local store, shutters are down, and there's a sign on the door saying that they've closed due to administrators. There's also a rather disgruntled gent in there throwing games and dvd's into a huge wheely bin.

only just saw this thread, wondered why my local choices had closed down. IIRC it was the day of the ps3 launch it closed. Was a truely awful shop for games, selection sucked and the prices were stupid virtually every game was £49.99 when theres a shop 1min walk away doing the same games at £37.99 and cheaper in some instances

I've not walked past yet but I've seen from the car/bus that mine is obviously closed with huge signs in the windows. It'd been a video shop for about 17 years, we still have Blockbuster though which I've prefered since it opened.

The one in Cirencester's becoming a Blockbuster. No sign of winding down, they must be taking all the stock on.
