Another over the top review of Bioshock...

    does not compute.

Bioshock is an above average shooter...

people can blab on about the "atmosphere" yeah its quite nice but seriously...replace it with space marines and NO ONE WOULD CARE!
The story is awful. Are people embarrassed to play videogames?...or...REALLY sick of cliche guns and muscle? I am to an extent but I don't confuse that yearning for something with a more mature tone (not "blood and guts") with This. It's emperor's new clothes. It's not that much fun to play It's a corridor blaster with mediocre A.I. (this "plays different EVERY time" stuff doesn't rub off on me) boring collection missions and HUGE repetition, and therefore does not deserve instant universal praise JUST for it's attempts to try something a bit different with its setting.

6 is a far more just score. It's above average.

Bioshock is a funny thing. When I played through it on release, I thought it was potential for the best game of the generation.

A few weeks of letting the dust settle and to really let the title settle in my mind has made me feel it's a great game, but perhaps nothing more than that. These 8/10's are fair. 7/10's, while harsh, would not be unfair.

Y'know what though? I felt the same about Halo. A few months later meant I saw the game in a different light.

Which water effects are these great water effects? I'm getting increasingly confused that my Bioshock features different water to everyone else.

          1) The wobbly water effect when looking out of the windows is hilariously bad.
          2) Why do I get spots of water on my eyes as if my eyes have a glass sheet in front of them?
          3) Why does the water look so unconvincing when it's in motion?

Granted the stock still, sitting there, water is OK, but generally this isn't a tour de force in fluid dynamics.

The way Bioshock reused the plot devices from system shock II is what bugs me, Atlus is bad ? you dont say

I bought it on release day, played it once, didn't get too far in to it, but for some reason I just can't be arsed to load it up and play it again.

Half Life II, Riddick , FEAR to name but a few

I'm with you most of the time, but in places the lighing and water effects are jaw dropping , then in other places the water effects are poor. I think the water effects in Blue Dragon look far better myself .

Whatever I think the whole Bioshock game is vaslty overrated (much like the Unreal Engine) , bar the audio and art direction which is inspired . Nice game don't get me wrong , But I have a feeling Prime onthe Wii is far better , never mind the up coming Brother In Arms ect

U don't like FEAR ? . Thats the best FPS I've played in quite a while , hands down the best AI I've seen in a FPS too (well imo) .

Just don't think the game is amazing as everyone makes out . I like the game , but the graphics (bar the art desgin) and the gameplay is wayoverrated for me . Still I thouught the same for Perfect Dark 64 yet everyone seemed to love and rave about that (Turok II was always so much better imo)

It is funny isn't it?! Big name titles always have a small crowd that think "what is the fuss about this?!". It has been said many a time now, they are entitled their opinion even if I don't agree with it. Bioshock is a stunning game with a wonderfully created world, characters and set pieces. If you strip the game down to its bones yes it is "just" an FPS but then you could say the same about most big FPS's (Half-Life, FEAR, Riddick etc), but then that would be doing them great games a dis-service. I think people just expect too much, I mean what else do you want from an FPS game?! In a climate where sub-standard FPS games are being churned out by the bucket load (or any genre of games for that matter) Bioshock stands out from the crowd and impresses immensely.....well in my opinion anyway.

Perfect Dark 64 was nothing more than adverage , and so overrated its untrue . I loved both the Turok games onthe N64 , but GoldenEye was in another league though

I know, you're entitled to your own opinion and all, but PD was certainly more than average - it smashed all 3 Turok games in single player and definitely multiplayer.

There's always someone who jumps at the chance to slate a popular game/series, and sometimes you can't help but feel that its just for the sake of it.
