Ok, just as an aside, I have to put in a good word for 101 Computer Games in Luton. I have a chipped DC that I bought in April 2000 and a modded jap cube which i got in Dec 2001 and I have never had a problem with either of them (apart from the DC resetting problem i had once but as that is common as sin it had nothing to do with the mod).

I would recommend this place to anyone. The Switch on the GC is perfectly innocuous at the back and has never failed me.

So, not all shops are bad (and no I don't work for them).

Harsh words there, I don't doubt your reasons but I must say my modded DC from NCSX has worked perfectly for three years now - no random resets, no failure to load import games etc. Just as long as I don't look under the case I guess...

dont worry lik-sang will have decent modders or they'd get a lot of return, damaged machines.

That's where I got mine from. I actually opened my machine up on receiving it to check out the mod. Pretty well done in my opinion. Sadly the actual toggle switch had become damaged in the post and I had to manually replace it, but that was like ?2 and 5 minutes work to do. Not had a problem with my Cube at all...

Wiring diagrams for the modchips are mostly very good - it's the older machines where the problems start. The diagrams are mostly by people who dont actually understand how the mod works or what it does - Saturn mods are the worst example.
Is all the documentation at www.GamesX.com correct for retro consoles?

Do you recommend any sites particularly for information about 'retro' mods?
It's far too vague in places and it doesnt actually explain why a mod works and how it's working. For example you will not get a Saturn region mod working using their guides, you need to understand the logic of the jumper settings yourself and it's not properly explained nor the pictures of the mod clear.

The also use very ugly methods of modding - I could never make holes in the casing of someone's PC Engine!

This seems to be the best place to say thanks to Saur for this afternoon's Saturn mod, everything is working fine, so thanks

After reading the NCs horror stories. Are Q's easy to disassemble as they did my region mod. If its no more difficult than a GC then thats ok as ive done a few of them.
