Fairly weak excuse considering the emergence of the problem before xmas and the continuing issues.
Perhaps they did some major prep-work in anticipation of the onslaught and it was that prep that went drastically wrong?

Just bought a 360 Arcade to replace my dead unit and I can't recover my Gamertag. Just get an error saying ' Xbox LIVE signup is not currently available, try later'

Is this a problem just for tonight or is part of the issues since it went down over Xmas?

I still have problems in CoD4, and my blades can take an age to load at first connection. Everything else seems okay.

COD4 is running offof infinity wards servers though, not Live. Perhaps they are having problems but everyone is assuming it is Live?

XBL has been dreadful for me for about a week, however PSN has been absolutely fine.
I'm honestly thinking of selling my 360. I'm pissed that Microsoft think it's reasonable to charge for stuff like online play and themes etc. when their nearest competitor offers identical products for free.
