Yep it's just done it for me too.

Coincidentally at the exact same time as we had a power surge due to the ridiculously high winds here at the moment and which sodded the power up enough to red light my system

Quick restart and the old girl seems to be OK but I did think it was b0rked when it wouldn't sign in.

Mid way through COD4, live disconnected.

I quit to the dashboard and it refused to log back in.

So I switched the machine off and back on.

It took literally 6 minutes for the little circle of dots to load up the dashboard features.

I can't log onto xbox.com either, it signs in but my gamertag is nowhere to be seen.

I was having weirdness but I don't know if that was my hacked together wireless network across my girlfriends parents house.
It kpet telling me to connect and there would be friends notifications appearing

I'm convinced its a conspiracy to keep me from getting 300 in HD for 100 points. They've dropped the price for the last couple of hours but broken Xbox Live so no bugger can get it!!

I kept getting disconnected from XBL quite a few times when I was playing VF5 earlier. I also experienced more lag than usual, too.

I was getting problems last night too. Guess its still not fixed as the live support page says:

Users may experience intermittent issues with tournaments, posting statistics, matchmaking, and sending messages. We are aware of the issue and are actively working towards a resolution. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Though apparently they class this as "Up and running"
