Sent an email but that will probably take weeks for them to get back to me.

Ah. I meant have you tried adjusting your credit card details by going via xbox.com rather than Live?

I've usually had a pretty quick response to emails I've sent them btw. They usually tell me my query is too complex to be solved by email and that I should ring Customer Services. LAWL!

I'm trying it using my parents cc and it's not accepting the details on billing.microsoft.com

Anyone know if it has to be in my name as I had the original card on the account?

What region is your Live account?

From your location I can see you're in Northern Ireland but if you've put CC details in to a profile for a region that doesn't match your geographic location the chances that'll be why your account has been suspended/banned.

The main one (i.e. my only Gold one) is a UK account and that's the only one I've used the CC with.

Just wanted to say I finally got my old CC removed and new one added and am back on Live!

Took an hour and 5 different people/calls but luckily got one very nice lady who unlocked my account and I've just checked online and it's updated to my new CC so perserverance wins with MS customer support it seems

I can't believe they don't let you manage this stuff online. Its rediculous that you have to phone bloddy India just to get your CC details removed from your live account.

Microsoft don't want us to remove our cards. That's why it's a hassle to do so. If our card details are on their servers they can charge what they want, when they want.

They didn't make all that money by being nice did they?

I'm really annoyed at what they did to me. I've rung them to try and get my card removed from the account but they have told me I can only do that if I cancel my sub. It only started again in December and they won't refund me. This means it will have cost me £40 for 2 months service. They also said the gamertag used with the account will be blocked if I cancel and I will not be able to use it again with a gold account.

This means that if I ever want to go on Live again I'll have to create a new tag and I'll obviously lose all my gamerpoints too.

On top of this, I resent having to pay £40 in the first place. I'm on an 8meg connection and it takes hours to download anything off Live.

The servers are always full of 'silver bandwith spongers' and this slows it down for me.

The solution is simple, either make Xbox Live free for everyone, or only let gold subscribers download content. I resent my paid service being crippled by bandwith dolies!

It used to be terrible, but I find that new content downloads a lot quicker on Gold since they put the "Silver users have to wait a week" restriction into place a few months back.

Once that week is up though....grindcentral.

PS3 is just as bad. 45 mins for a 89mb download on a 20mb connection. Lovely.

phorenzik, someone has given you bad info. Thre credit card can be permanently suspended (do not use the word 'cancelled' when dealing with them). Once the card has had all payments ceased, it will remain linked to your account, but completely inactive. If you then do not use a prepaid code to top up your account, your gamertag will turn silver.

You will need an understanding service rep to get this done (preferably a higher-up like a supervisor).

Take the cost you have already worn on the chin if you wish to retain your gamertag, or get a chargeback on your credit card (bank should be able to help you out as you can argue it was an unauthorised payment).

Their system sucks no question, but you can get around it without cancelling your gamertag.

I hate Microsoft. Now I hate them more. I just called them to cancel my Gold subscription (don't play online these days), and after telling me how rubbish MY PlayStation 3 was and how great Xbox Live is (I said if I play online now, its PS3 because its free and the amount I do play online isn't worth £40), they eventually did what I asked them to do.

However, it got much worse from here.

Microsoft - Anything else we can help you with today?
Me - Could you remove the two credit cards on my account please?
Microsoft - No we can't. We have cancelled your subscription now, you wont be billed.
Me - I want them removed, those cards are both dead now
Microsoft - If they are dead, why do you want them removed?
Me - Why do you want them on there!? Take them off my account please
Microsoft - Well OK, but two things. We can do it, but you wont be able to use online services, and we can't do it until higher management has authorised it. They will be phoning you in the next 48hrs.

What a joke. Die Microsoft, ****ing die.

You're joking right? I'm in the same boat, want the card info off the account and thinking about cancelling Live outright.

Nope, fraid not. I just got my Live cancellation email through, now I am just waiting for a member of the Royal Family to phone me about my request to remove my cards off of my account.

Not really improving me view of MS as a company I'm afraid.

my live sub is finishing on 15th march. i only used the cc to pay for the sub once, when my 12-month code ran out and did a £4.99 monthly sub while i sourced a new 12-month code (the code that is running out now).

regarding them just swiping money, are you lot sure about this, or has the renewal option just been set by accident? my account is not set to renew at all, and according to MS (as well as some people on this forum) it will simply downgrade to silver automatically as a result. remains to be seen what happens, and hopefully they won't pull a fast one.

the CC i used way back when was replaced in december with a completely new card after hsbc's anti-fraud unit jumped in to rescue me from some card-copier (which i'm still convinced was just me trying to use my card to pay for a yahoo japan auction i'd won but they wouldn't listen and cut the card anyway), so they wouldn't be able to pay by 'guessing'.

i doubt they even do that - i'm on mixi.jp (japanese facebook-alike) and they charge about £1.50 a month to use their premium service (so i can upload photos and stuff), and it still managed to continue the monthly charge even when the card expired early last year, and is still charging just fine now even though the cc account has a completely new number!

all this without any input from me whatsoever. my easynews account on the other hand cuts off even if only the expiry date info changes.
