    guinness world records gamers edition

    sorry if already posted.

just got this in Waterstones (half price- ?7.50) wondered what everyone else thought of it?

some of it isnt strictly records as such, but trivia on games -
anyone want to share the stranger things they have found within?

ive found a quote from 1949, claiming "computers in the future may weigh no more than 1.5 tons"!!!!

FunkyDan (I think) started a thread on it the other week, see it's £9.99 in Game when bought with anything else, but Waterstones price tops that

What sort of records does it list, Arcade, Pinball, home consoles ?

Will check it out next time I'm in there.

Professor Frink: I predict that within 100 years, computers will be twice as powerful, 10,000 times larger, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.

Clearly they didn't bank on the Xbox!

That's a good price. I'm just waiting on my (?8.99) copy from Play.com to arrive. There's an Official Site for the book & a sample page of what the content's like. The chapter editors include Ellie Gibson (Eurogamer), Martin Korda, Martyn Carroll & Keith Pullin as the main editor.

the book is probably not what you would expect and comes across like an Edge or Games tm special edition - there are features e.g with professional gamers (the worlds youngest), a retrospective look at console history and 2007 by month - none of which is particularly record driven but are articles with reportage e.g "microsoft admitted the number of 360s breaking down was unacceptable".

            - a review of the year top 20 games (unclear if this is by sales or just subjective), then particular records held by each major console and the best sellers with figures for each console. again a lot of it reads like videogame trivia rather than world records. (third best selling game on N64? Goldeneye).

next is record breaking games by genre e.g action adventure as the genre, then the following pages dedicated to specific games e.g Zelda, GTA etc
this is the bulk of the book, with some odd records - "most bones broken by a sim game! - arm spirit by atlus, 3 players broke their arms on it testing their strength" - anyone on here want to break the record by breaking several ribs playing sim city?

            - next is top 100 arcade games - but this bizarrely is ranked by "technical, creative and cultural impact" which is entirely subjective!!

            - finally is the high scores and probably what you would have expected, officiated by twin galaxies (official game score bods) in an A-Z list spanning titles across every format and arcade.

worth 7.99 and full of trivia for the videogame obsessive (who me? nahh) but i cant help thinking next years edition will be better (less subjective lists please)

According to this book super mario world is the best selling 32 bit game of all time. Amazing!! Nintendo sold it to me as a 16 bit cartridge.

I think so if you can get it for under a tenner, it's packed full of info and retro bits etc. A nice keepsake.

Hopefully the 2009 version all features someone proof reading it before it's prinited! Don't get me wrong, it's a nice book to have but a couple of errors spoiled it's authority.

Is this the version that has classic arcade scores supplied and verified by Twin Galaxies? I don't know if I'd trust them after seeing The King of Kong.
