The way I see it is that, at that price point, it had better be pretty damn good seeing as it's the first entry to the series.

To me this is much more niche than Guitar Hero, especially for a first in the series. While that's something which even the first Guitar Hero had to overcome until it hit critical mass, off the top of my head the price point was nowhere near a 100 sheets.

While they obviously can't slit their own throats, in the current climate I can't see people shelling out for something at that price on the off chance, so they better hope the word of mouth is good.

Or that the forum plants (like the ones we already have on here) are working overtime.

Forum plants? Ooh, I feel like a celebrity's here or something!

      *combs hair, smoothes wrinkled clothes*

I imagine the word 'Hero' in the title is all the word of mouth they'll need, frankly. I was laughing when I first saw the RB gear, how plasticky it was and the price it was going for (not to mention factoring in the price of the game on top) yet plenty of people were - and still are - buying it.

Suppose, hypothetically, the game turns out to actually be brilliant and spawns yearly updates and piles of DLC and online modes and cool stuff, will the fact it's £100 with the controller have been worth it in hindsight?

Probably but having seen what they did with Guitar Hero I'd expect them to change the controller the following year to add more features and then you'd have to buy it again.

Oh yeah, I didn't think of that! The gits probably will do something like that, too.

To me it isn't niche enough. I'd be happy to pay a hundred bucks for a game that was a celebration of all that is excellent about dance music, but this isn't it. Instead they seem to be trying to capture everyone by including rock stuff like the Foo Fighters which I'm not interested in at all.

The involvement of DJ Shadow had me interested, but they need to show a lot more electronica, hip hop, house and techno to want me to buy it. And I don't just mean some crappy Faithless or 50 Cent.

I imagine you may well get your wish via DLC, boy will there be DLC...

I don't mind if it's DLC, but I suspect we'll be getting more mash ups of pop and rock tunes rather than dance classics.

If there's a decent selection of stuff like Eric B and Rakim, Tribe Called Quest, Derrick May, Afrika Bambattaa, DJ Shadow, Mr Scruff, early Run DMC then that'll be quality, but I suspect it'll be the Black Eyed Peas.

I'm not sure how it's going to work with the electronica and dance stuff. This stuff is DJ'd when it's mixed into other tunes as part of a long set. How will it work within a five minute play time? Are we going to get a mash up of Higher State of Conciousness with Halycon*?

                *(actually that sounds awesome)

After reading the games TM preview I really think this game looks amazing. Far too expensive but it I really want it now.

After my semi-rant above, the appeal on this has grown. They've clearly got some talent on board and the mixes I've heard so far have turned mundane tracks into super funky slices of win (except the guitar tracks, which sound a bit poo).

Daft Punk is just another thing that makes me want this game. The only thing that's stopping me from hitting the pre-order button is the fact that it will only be a single player game for me (after Rock Band, I rarely play music games solo - nowhere near as much fun) and the high probability that the price will plummet in the new year.

Think I'll hold off and pick it up cheap.

                            Bugger it. I've pre-ordered it.

                            Worst. U-Turn. Ever.

It dawned on me that while Beatles Rock is the best of the current music games, this is something new and fresh. And unlike Activision's other music franchise, this one feels like a lot of love has gone into it.

I might regret it, but I think this could actually be a lot of fun to play with a group of people. the inclusion of some very recognisable songs starts to make sense now.
