Difference between Zelda Link to the Past on GBA & SNES?

I'm going on a serious Zelda rampage. In the last year I've done:

    Twighlight Princess (Wii)
    Wind Waker
    Ocarina of Time
    Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass (the finest Zelda ever for me...I think)

I'm planning on going back to the GBC Link's Awakening too...also, how does the oracle of seasons stack up? AND...is Majoras mask worth it? I loved Ocarina on my N64 and I have Majoras Mask for my GC/Wii but never played it.

Also, I honestly wasn't aware of the Minish Cap until this year - it is truley fantastic. Is there any other GBA Zelda games I've missed?

I had completed A Link to the Past when I was but a young boy with my SNES...and now I want to revisit.

But what should I do? SNES or GBA? I'll be playing either on my PSP.

God, I really love Zelda. I can now safely say it has pipped Mario to my all time greatest series.

    Cheers

Oracale of seasons/ages are absolutely excellent, by Capcom (As is Minish cap) they ooze with zelda class.

Majoras mask is personally my favourite Zelda, it's story is different from the usual "Save princess zelda, defeat gannon" etc. it's a nice change and i can't reccomend any game over it.

the main difference between GBA and SNES versions is that link makes an annoying voice/sound "hyaahh!" in the GBA version.

There's lot of little bugs and quirks fixed in the GBA version of LttP. Also one puzzle in the ice dungeon I believe was made a lot easier, and you can't sequence break now (a bug in the SNES version meant you could do two of the dungeons out of order).

For some reason I find the directional control in LTTP a bit clunky on the GBA version.

Here's one for you.. The first dungeon in Zelda LTTP has a breakable wall, but you don't actually get the bombs until later in the game.. Does anyone know the reason for it or if the room is accessible?

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yep... I believe I fudged myself some bombs using an AR back in the day and opened it. I think there was a ton of money inside but nothing else.

Link's Awakening is my favourite so far (I played it before LttP so this may have coloured my opinion) and I definitely think it has the best music of the series.

Actually I've been doing something similar with Zelda (though chronologically), but I started a few years ago when I got the GC collector's disc. I played the NES Zelda first, then Link's Awakening - out of sequence I know - then Link to the Past, and just the other week I finished Ocarina of Time. I'm going to skip straight to Twilight Princess next (on GC though). I figure Windwaker & Majora's Mask can wait for a rainy day.

It took me a very long time to finish LttP but you have to consider I was mostly playing on the toilet. 2 years worth of ****s and aeroplane journeys.

You can go back to the breakable wall in the first dungeon once you get the bombs. If you go back to the chapel, you can re-enter the dungeon by pushing the alter to the side.

While Ocarina of Time is still the best game ever as far as I'm concerned Majora's Mask is almost as good. It gets ignored by so many people, and others give up on it because they don't like the save system, but it's an incredible experience with an atmosphere like no other game. I really wish Nintendo would release a proper version somewhere. The Collector's Edition's problems are a real shame. I'd definitely suggest giving it a try if you've got it but been putting off playing it, though.

I did the same thing when I got the collector's disc as well. Haven't finished a single one though, it's one of my traditions now! Can't seem to get into Majora's Mask though, I've started it a few times but don't get very far at all.

Majora's Mask is definately worth tracking down. My girlf bought mine for me for a fiver in a charity shop a few years back and it's such a great game. The world is much smaller but there's so much stuff to do. One of the reasons its so great is that all the subquests revolve around characters and character relationships rather than simply hunting for items. This gives the game incredible depth. It's also rather difficult - especially if you want to get all the masks - but don't let that put you off!

One of my main criticisms of Twilight Princess was that it should have been at least as ambitious as Majora's Mask but really just ploughed the same old furrow.

Twilight Princess was always supposed to be a blockbuster epic-type Zelda along the lines of Ocarina of Time, though, instead of a Majora's Mask-style side story. It's generally considered that's what people wanted after the Wind Waker backlash of 2001 - another traditional, 'realistic' Zelda.

Link's Awakening was the biggest surprise in the franchise for me, amazing visuals this was on NES like hardware with 4 shades of green/grey and yet they managed to get a visual quality out of the game almost on par with the SNES version. Fantastic audio out of the sound chip too.

Perhaps the finest 8bit achievement? The Gameboy Colour version Zelda DX has extra dungeons in it. Definitely a must play if you havn't already.

Currently playing a Link to the Past on the GBA emulator via PSP.

It's just as awesome as I remember it back on my SNES.

                              Just got the flippers...

After that I'm definitely moving on to Zelda DX on GBC, then probably the Oracles (do I need to do them both?)...

Then who knows, back to the big telly probably with a visit to Majoras Mask on Wii via GC disc.
