      So bad?

      Oh well.
No it's not, it's a very enjoyable but flawed co-op experience. 4/10 is overly harsh IMO. Though it does have some increidbly annoying flaws.

It's proof that co-op can be done wrong and a horribly frustrating exercise in how to blow a lot of potential.

They've got money hats on for just about every release. It's pathetic really, they'll give anything a good score for a bit of exclusive footage and a backhander.

I've found the AO2 coop a terrific amount of fun and not that frustrating at all. Not a fantastic game (it's incredibly dumb at times) but certainly fun and worth a rental. Though I admittedly have a high tolerance for even average shooters and tend to get enjoyment from them.

Erm... 6 isn't a loathing score. That would be a 1. 6 is better than average, some would say decent.

They were one of the few critics who celebrated Manhunt - they gave it an 8. Unlike gTM who condemned it and gave it a low score. EDGE were especially praiseworthy of the game's art style and atmosphere.

EDGE did give GTA III 6/10 in the original review, but a month later, they offered a correction and stated that it was a typo. Whether you believe them or not, they gave it 8/10.
On the GTA III review, I remember it certainly did come across like an 8. I remember that being one of the first issues I bought, and the actual mark surprising me after what I'd just read.

They don't hate violence full stop. 4/10 may be somewhat harsh for Army of Two, but this isn't R6V all over again by a long shot. I'm only a little way in but it feels uncomfortably like playing America's Most Wanted already, not to mention it's just not that much fun.

EDIT: Oh, and Lost Odyssey feels about right ten hours or thereabouts into the first disk - as does Apollo Justice, although I'm basing that just on a little bit of AJ, and more on having recently finished PW 1 and 3 out of 4 cases from PW 2. Dear God is this franchise ever wildly over-rated by its adoring fans; no, it's not that well-written, no, it's not that funny, no, they're not up to much as games. I mean, they're okay, worth buying for lack of anything better, but I can see someone rating what I've played so far a lot lower than a 6.

Difference of opinion then. You only have to read my reviews of PW2 and PW3 here to see that

And yes AJ will be getting more than 6 when I finish the review...

OK, alright - I knew some pedant would come in here and jump up and down on me because of this over-statement. You're right - it isn't a loathing score, but it was much lower than most other reviews and I wouldn't ever call a 6/10 decent, even by EDGE's standards.

It is an interesting anomaly that the average score in EDGE is in fact a 7.

That's only because most below-average games are ignored by the mag. If they reviewed every Horsez or Imagine Babies that came along then that 'average' would come crashing down.

                    Ah - good point.

It is still a bad basis for a scoring system, IMO - perhaps one of the many reasons for the change in the scoring legend (is that the right term?) with the redesign.

I think probably anyone who uses a scale of 1-10 will have an average of 7.

Edge really is a stuck up, pompous bastard sometimes.

It's as if they just give games artificially low scores just to keep up their image.

Already read them, believe me. Which is partly why I was determined to finally play the series. I'd play the oh-so-spectacular case 4 in PW2, but the combined onslaught up to that point was just proving too much for me. The constant stream of spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, the terrible vocabulary/phrasing, the annoying localisation, the same old gags that weren't that funny to start with, the constant refusal to explore any kind of serious thematic content beyond a few phrases here and there, the constant recycling of existing characters who don't merit it (who gives a toss about Larry Butz, for goodness' sake? To name but one), the lazy re-use of undistinguished art assets, the stupid pantomime character designs... to say nothing of the problems with the games themselves.

But hey, opinions, eh? I'll carry on believing the vast, vast majority of writing in videogames is absolute rubbish, and while Capcom's series is certainly above average it'd be critically torn apart anywhere outside of videogame fandom. Until they actually bring out a game that treats the subject matter at all seriously, and mirrors the quality of the narrative/dialog in something like The Wire or The Shield, it'll have to do. Makes a lot more sense to me than giving it anything above a 6 or 7.

That time of the month again....

Edge may have their head up their own arse in terms of writing such ridiculous reviews you need a dictionary to translate, but I don't get everyone's obsession with their review scores. If you're going to give Edge a hard time, go at them for the pompous writing.

Just quit the monthly moan because you don't agree with a score, which is entirely a personal assessment of a game. Guess what? We all like different things!

The Edge score thread on this forum is the equivalent to gaming PMT for a few of you.

/me waits for the Edge 188 Scores thread to see the same **** posted again.

Well I think the army of two score seems right. After spending most of the day with it I very almost posted how Edge was gonna have a field day with it. Appears they did
