Hey! Edited my post to add in the tiny text at the bottom, to make it even more painfully obvious that I was actually having a bit of a joke, because I know how some people can misinterpret internet humour.

It doesn't help that I abhor smilies, and won't use them, but I refuse to resort to them when people should be able to identify written humour, goddamit. Especially when I make it so bleedingly obvious he would have needed to have soaked his eyes in industrial paint-thinner for two hours beforehand to have missed it.

Incidently, I have a small dick, so no need to take it to PM.

        Irony duly noted

I thought it was unfair to both of you, and edited it seconds after the initial post. You must have eagle-eyes at this time of night. Now go at look at my comment about censorship in the Fable thread and comment on that, you slick little pedant, you. Shoo, shoo I say!

I'm slightly confused. What did they sell him he didn't need exactly? I paid ?150 for my switched Cube on its own, a fair price. Getting Zelda (A game he is likely to have purchased at some point) and a freeloader for a spot of Pal gaming, both free, is a pretty decent deal if you ask me mate.

That they haven't told him he needs a stepdown and s-VHS/RGB lead is neither here nor there. Anyone who goes into an import shop is assumed to know thier stuff with regard to gaming. Telling him "Oh yeah, you need a stepdown because in this country we have electricity that's different from other places" will have sounded patronising to say the least.

IF I have missed something though, please excuse me. The amount of editing in here makes it slightly dificult to know what you have said.

He'd have to have paid at least ?10 for an official RGB lead, anyway. Granted, S Vid isn't as good, but it's as close as you're going to get for the price.

As for the stepdown, get one and you're set (unless you have an import Xbox >_< ) for most other import consoles. There are a few basic steps you need for importing, and this person is discovering them. All retail has its plus and minus points - that's just life in the modern world, I'm afraid. Overall, he'll have to weigh-up the benfits and minus-points and decide for himself whether its worth it. Neither PAL or NTSC is purely good or evil, FFS.

Of course, it leads to the interesting condundrum... if this chap isn't well versed enough to really know what he's getting with an NTSC machine, is he going to be bothered with the whole importing Malarky?

I mean, I know he's got a Freeloader, but he's pretty much taken the most indirect route to where he wants to be, if all he wants to pop down to Game and pay ?35 for a scratched up second hand bit of software... I'd be most worried about him being fleeced when it comes to Import prices, especially if he buys them in shops, rather than online.

Or have thins got better since I last looked?

Darran, where was this place? I have a few burning torches and an Insta-Mob (TM) to spare. Just point and we shall pillage.

All I wanted to do with this thread was point out that importers can be just as bad as anybody else.

The store in question sells both Pal and import games, many people will go there just to pick up the latest pal releases (as my friend does).

All he wanted was a GameCUbe that could play F-Zero (he was well aware that he needed an action replay). He certainly didn't want to be sold a console with no step down converter, no way of plugging it into the TV and a sub standard version of Zelda (and before all you ntsc guys go on about the evils of pal (he wanted to simply play the bonus games as well).

The biggest problems with certain people on this forum is because they know so much about games, they assume everyone else does. They then belittle people with their tired NTSC is better than pal comments just because this poor bloke goes to a shop that sells both import and pal games.

My whole point is that I feel this guy was ripped off and it was an importer who done it to him, if you have to bash Pal gaming make your own thread up and don't tarnish mine.

So again to the point at hand, do you think the guy should have been told exactly what he was getting, because I do.

i think that it depends what he asked for , if he just went in and asked for an ntsc cube and zelda then that is prolly all he was going to get , if however he went in and asked what cube he needed to play f-zero on then i personally think they should have helped him out more than they did and explain stepdowns etc , of course i think a truly great shop owner would have recognised this anyway and explained but that is just my opinion.

Theshop is around the corner from his house, so it was conveniencxe that took him there. He didnt ask for an NTSC cube (he wouldnt know what NTSC was) he'd simply seen games like f-zero, zelda and viewtiful joe around my house and decided he wanted a gamecube.

If I was spending that much money on a system, I'd do a little background reading before making my purchase. Perhaps the guys in the store just assumed he knew what he was doing when picking an import cube. Did he ask them any questions?

Darran, you should have explained what he needed before he went. Admittedly the shop may have done a botch job, but it sounds illogical for a shop to not sell their customer essential goods. Instead what most probably happened is that your happy mate walked into said store, all confident like, asked for what he wanted which instantly made the staff think he was some kind of savvy uber-gamer and consequently sold him the stuff he asked for. Simple.

Sounds more of a misunderstanding rather than elitist wank.

Oh, he knew what he wanted, I told him to pick up a pal Zelda pack and an actiob replay, it was the shop that told him he needed the ntsc cube as it was better for playing imports.

Anyway, I told him to get his money back and he's now gone to gamestation
