Gamezville on sky one at 4

Had a look round the forums and saw no mention of this. Am i the only person who was cringing when the gameZ guru came on.

If you missed it, believe me the hour was spent doing something a hell of a lot better

If ive missed it somewhere else lock it up delete as necessary

It wasn't aimed for mature gamers though, as you'd instantly see from the kids running around the studio. The show wasn't completely without merit though - they did show Viewtiful Joe after all.

However, the presenters were toss, the 'Face off' thing was just ****, the Gamesguru was awful, and having 13 year old lads - who's voices are breaking - reviewing games and scoring them out of 5 "G's" is just the worst decision ever in the history of broadcasting.

I'm sure though, if I was a pre-teen, I'd overlook the production values and enjoy the show.

I don't think people should excuse crap TV production by saying "well, it's just for kids". When I was 12 I liked shows that didn't patronise me. That's all Sky and UTV seem to be able to do nowadays.

The show is just a poor mish mash of BI, GM and LAN JAM. Not one original thought in the whole thing.

When I was a child I didn't need other kids on my TV shows to help me relate. These kids are too inarticulate and/or camera shy. It's just so horribly alkward and half hearted.

Soccer shows don't show a load of fat middle aged men playing in their back garden to help them relate to the sport. They just show some of the best players in the world doing what they do best.

The whole thing was just wanton ****. I wouldn't mind if they'd tried something original and failed. They're just dumbing down concepts that haven't worked in the past and will never work.

They should just hire Jonathan Ross and do Games 2003. The format wouldn't need much changing and the show would appeal to a larger demographic.

I heartily agree, a popular Celeb who is also a games enthusiast would be the perfect choice to present such a show. Sadly it seems that no-one puts thought or effort into these productions at all now, they immediatly hear gaming and think 'ah, kids', whilst quite miraculously ignoring that it was games like Wipeout in the club scene that made the Playstation brand big.

Personally I think a well done and professional show, which doesn't attempt to pander yet also contains loads of info, would go down tremendously well with the public at large. People have only given up on gaming shows because we've had so much ****e pedalled to us in the past, I mean Gamesmaster is regularly held up as the best and even that was only slightly above average IMO.

I'm going to be cringing more then anyone in a weeks times as i'm going to be on it the funniest thing though was just how many takes the presenters needed to get stuff right, one of them was convinced that gt4 was already out

There was very little actual content, it was just fluff. I thought that the Outrun section was too detailed considering the lightweight nature of the rest of the show, you could see the presenters switching off half way through.

And they kept refering to PES as ISS.

                      Hopefully it can improve.

Brilliantly put - thats what I've wanted to see on TV for ages. A show that doesnt treat you like an idiot - I know for a fact that showing people making a game look impressive gets a lot more attention than idiots button bashing. That other show where they decided the UK's best gamer by having 2 random brers button bashing through 1 round of Tekken was truly pathetic - what about all the unbelievably sick gamers out there? when are they gonna get to show their stuff?

What we have seen and are seeing now in the UK is pathetic in conparison with other parts of the world.

South Korea: I have 3 of the Pump It Up championships on video, picture this: Olympic stadium, countless machines lined up on a huge neon lit stage with performers, dancers and singers putting on shows as the best of the best players face off all at the same time for the chance to be accepted into the main event. The main part of the event is the dance competition, the standard of play is amazing - everyone has multiple choreographed routines both single and with other people.

Japan: (Evo) Again massive stages, huge amounts of players who have fought in their respective arcades to have the chance to make the proper VF4 EVO tournament. The whole thing is truly professional, beautifully presented, respectful inverviews with players, excellent crown appreciation, knowledgable commentators - and all this is then released in a suberbly presented DVD >_<

Promotion is this country is a pisstake - I know we can never be at the same level as Japan, but the gap is just ridiculous. It's almost like some kind of crime to be good at games here, I remember a friend of mine being banned from a local arcade for 1 crediting most of their shoot em ups

                              What? That is absolutely ridiculous.

Surely seeing someone playing a game well is one of th best advertisements for the game, and is a perfect way to get more people interested in the game. Certainly arcade owners should be more proactive in encouraging the top players to use their facilities.

Whenever I see top players rinsing a game it makes me want to play it 100 times more, in the hope that I will be able to replicate even a small amount of their skill. Certainly I only started playing Pump It Up after seeing videos of some mighty impressive freestyle routines. I am nowhere near reaching that level but it gives me something to aim for.

Banning people for being too good seems counter-productive and short-sighted.

Heh, counter-productive and short-sighted describes the UK arcade scene perfectly
