I've been playing Castlevania on my new Twin Famicom. It's well hard! I'm glad I got the disc version as being able to save your level is a real god-send considering how hard this is. I just don't have the time to sit and play a hard game like this from start to finish like we all used to as kids.
The only other Castlevania game I've ever played is Super Castlevania IV on SNES (still one of my favourite games ever) and it's just like that, but less so. The composer did an amazing job with the music considering the limitations of the Famicom / NES audio.
Originally posted by crocky-chocky View PostHaving recently watched Band of Brothers for the first time, I needed a WW2 game. Despite it taking me a while to get to grips with, Brothers in Arms has really delivered. Sure, the graphics and sound are a little weedy. But some of the set-pieces are really clever, and use the games fun mechanics really well. Would anyone recommend I play the previous ones?
Oh and if you can, get the PC versionsThe Xbox versions aren't backwards compatible BTW. Don't even bother with the PS2 version of RtH30.

Viking - I have been meaning to pick this up for a while and I'm glad I did. Great fun and a quick shot on the day I got it turned into a 2 hour stint. Top stuff.
hope it's worth the 15 euros i got it for.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village on the DS: Playing some more of this, it's ok, but not outstanding, will probably switch back to GTA Chinatown Wars on my DS tomorrow.
Outrun Arcade on the 360, DL'd it and whizzed through the Arcade side only, getting all A-E finishes, loved it, truly what XB Live Arcade should do more off. May even pick up the PS3 version too.

Another week, another round up:
Resistance 2 : Slowly plugging away at this and I have to say... it's really become something of a chore. Given the sluggish sales Sony should probably reconsider how much time Insomniac spends on this series, even more so post-KZ2.
Mercenaries 2 : This game really is dumb but in the wake of the R2 frustration it feels perfectly fun and laid back with some nice big explosions. Pretty repetitive missions of drive to A and kill B but at least manages to send you on them without disappearing up it's own ass like GTA4.

The only tough bit is finding the hidden skulls.

Road to Hill 30 has some smashing level design but I never really liked the character of Matt Baker (same player character as Hell's Highway). Earned in Blood has much better AI and is a steep tactical challenge as it's intended mainly for people who really liked the original. You get to play as Joe Hartsock in that one and the game is better for it, since he's a much more likeable and plausible character next to Baker's constant emofail.

I spotted both games for a few quid each at my local CEX. I'll pop down with some trade-ins and get 'em both. There's a Wii box set of both games floating around too, but I'm reluctant to pay the extra pennies in-case they've been mangled by added waggle.
Still really enjoying Hells Highway and Pixeljunk Eden by the way!

Yeah, I forgot about the Wii version as I blotted it out from my memory. It's monumentally bad, just don't go there. If you have a PC that was gaming spec any time in the last three or four years you should be able to run it on max settings at 60fps. It is an Unreal Engine game after all, as in UE 1, the original.

Coming to the end of my fascination with Killzone 2 now I think. I've played about 60 hours of the multiplayer, which is just an unbelievable amount.
Other than that I've been playing Order of Ecclesia on the DS (It's nails), some of the Free Realms beta and Lego Batman on the PS3. I'd add Bangai-O Spirits to the list, but I'm not actually sure I'm playing it yet.

Shock Troopers on the PS2 SNK anthology. Awesome-feeling game, despite the fact that the screen seems a tad offset, vertically, like (a 1.5cm border at the top and missing information at the bottom). Anyways... it's tha ****.
That and...Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition on PS2. I recently bought a second hand PS2 for piss-all and that disc was inside the drive. Know it's a chav-arse game but it's lots of fun, actually...
