A games company releasing a classic games compilation at a reasonable price! I think I'm in shock... at that price I'd actually be tempted to invest.

    Thanks for the info Brats.

Oh really? Funky. I haven't looked into Stream much, actually. I own the original GTA legally, but downloaded it anyway to see if it wanted to run, which it didn't. Gah.

This is a complete fallacy, though. Out of all the people I know, very few download music at all, let alone entire albums.

This is just a line pimped by the industry in an attempt to defend its right to rip people off.
          Really ?

I guess I kind of believed them and never really questioned it, but you have a good point.

Does anyone have an unbiased figures of how much music piracy is supposed to be costing the industry ? I guess not as its usually the industry that bangs on about it

But it must be hurting them in some way otherwise they wouldn't make such a fuss ? Or is it just sour grapes ?

Maybe I'm just paranoid because of all my MP3's

My justifications always been, if everyone else is doing it, I will too (and yes, I would stick my hand in the fire if everyone else was- I'm just that shallow)

If what you say is right you've just thrown me into some kind of excerstencial (sp?) mind **** thats going to tear my poor brain appart

It depends how much they expect us to pay for it. If it was 10 quid for 4 classic games (assuming they'd actually be converted correctly) then I'd at least consider it. But more than likely they'll want us to pay 20, 30 quid for it.
The Midway compilation is available for under ?15 from DVDBO and includes over 20 games!

The only slight issue is that the press release says for 1 or 2 players. If that's correct and they've removed the 4 and 3 player modes from Gauntlet and Rampage, then someone at Midway deserves to be shot.

Nevertheless, mine is on order .
No 4plr? At least I have Guantlet on the PSone.

Really? What do you run? I was overjoyed with Rockstar for doing this, as the download version runs fine in XP (as long as you go into the options program first), while the original CD release won't have anything to do with it on my box.

The press release says 1-2 players, but press releases can be unreliable. It's possible that the PS2 version may only be 2 player because of a lack of ports, whereas the XBox and GC versions are 4 player.

I've ordered the GC version anyway, so I can use my SC2 stick with it .

Midway were at CGE and had the latest PS2 build there. I spoke to the guy about it and at least 3 games had changed since the previous press release at the time. Defender was back in, and not just Stargate for starters. I did ask why some pap games were in there when the compilation was begging for Gorf and Wizard of Wor, but he couldn't answer me there

To my knowledge, Gauntlet was 4 player at that time. They still hadn't finalised it all, or finishing the programming, and this was earlier in the month...

My opinion on Piracy is that it's all bull!

I have pirate games and i'm totally not ashamed of it. If i can get a game cheaply then why not? After all, i'm not gonna go off and pay 40 quid for a ****ing plastic disc, especially with no guarentee that the game is actually worth the money.

It's the same case with mp3's actually. The thing i hate about this is the fact that rich ass bosses sitting in their huge offices are complaining about the fact that they are losing money. Stats and facts can be morphed into any way possible, proving any "point". There is no real proof that they are losing money at all, but one thing is for certain is that they are pissed off because they don't get any money from pirates. At the end of the day it's all about money, and people are trying more and more ways to make it... charging people for everything. It's ridiculous...

The truth is that record companies said that the cassette tape would bankrupt them. The truth is that we are downloading mp3's, but yet still buying cd's... copying games and yet still buying genuine games! Anyone cant say that we are all being totally overcharged for these things in the first place! And it's always good to know that there is loads of rich people who aren't serious gamers that will cough up the money anyways.

Piracy is illegal, because it stops the rich man from getting even more richer.

The legality of piracy is besides the point in my opinion. Its a morale issue. Regardless of whos taking most of the money from software sales why should you be able to just take something that other talented individuals have poured sweat and tears into just because you're too cheap to pay for it?

Think that developing games, distributing games and selling games are a way to an fortune do you? Then why not set up in business and make the big money for yourself? All of these "rich ass bosses" have at sometime or another risked alot of time and money to ensure that there would be games on the shelve for us to play. No matter what you think of the prices that retail outlets charge for games you can't argue that at sometime the owner of the business has had to stake probably his lifes savings just so he can supply the games that you want to play. The same goes for the developer and the distributor.

Yet, because you are completely devoid of decency and morals you don't mind coming on this board bragging about the fact that you are quite happy about the fact you are scummy enough to totally disrespect what people have done for this industry.

Um no, piracy is illegal because if everyone pirated then there would be no music, games, films etc made anymore. Whose gonna invest millions of pounds in a game just for everyone to download for nothing. What a great situation that would be .

And it's not just the big fat bosses you con when you pirate, it's all the people who spent their time developing the game for your enjoyment. Your attitude towards developers and artists is staggering .

I haven't read all 5 pages of this but...

..when ELSPA and the rest start going on about the manymany millions it's lost through piracy, i wonder. Do they believe that for every counterfit copy sold, they lost a genuine sale? I can't see how that can be?
If that person wasn't offered a pirate version, he wouldn't of bought the game full price anyway, so really the industry wouldn't of gained either way?

Or is it something else completely?!

I like to purchase the genuine stuff. I like the manual, artwork etcetc Same with music, i like to read the sleeve notes, lyrics etcetc.

But at one time, it was quite different

When i was about 13-14 i'd goto an Amiga copy club.

Every alternate thursday, my dad would drop me off, AMiga, monitor, leads, powerpack, keyboard (man i was fit) carried it into a methodist church hall, 'rented' for the evening, and set up.

It was a slick operation, you became a member, got a card, and then you bought an Xcopy disk. You then traded your membership card for a game from the numerous disk boxes. Each game would have a number and listed in a catalogue, for you to peruse at lesuire.

It even had 2 sunday chuch volunteers running a tuck shop. Many a Twix and Cheery Coke consumed waiting for thise orange dots to light!!

I had about 2 disk boxes FULL of pirate games. From Agony to Fire and Ice
. And i remember 'Bad Influence' on the TV one time after school, the guy(forget his name) doing a piece on piracy said "If you have any pirate games, do this immediatley" he then comences mincing a floppy with a screwdriver! And I looked at my 2 full Disk boxes and went "Errr...No"

The Copyclub got raided by the police the thursday evening i didn't normally go, everyone inside got prosecuted. The minister in charge of the church had said that he was told it was a night school to help people with their computer skills. Indeed.

To say i couldn't give 2 hoots for the industry and folk behind it at 13 was entirely due to the ?3 quid a week pocket money i used to get. Can't buy many games with that can you?

                            Innocent times

                              Thanks!!!^^

Firstly, i just wanna say that what i wrote is an opinion, i'm not expecting anyone to agree, or disagree, and i'm just expressing my opinion on "piracy" which is the whole point of this thread isn't it?? So please don't take it to heart what i say if i offend you but you'll be sure that what i write is my truth...

I don't deny that owning pirate games is illegal. And trust me i'm not bragging about it at all. I just wanna justify to you why i do what i do.

Yet, because you are completely devoid of decency and morals you don't mind coming on this board bragging about the fact that you are quite happy about the fact you are scummy enough to totally disrespect what people have done for this industry.
The truth is that i don't disrespect the games developers at all. I never said that. In fact i totally respect them because they make some kick ass games!! We've come a long way since PONG!:P

But i'm just saying that it's a shame that everyone is trying to make money out of everything. Ok, fair enough i agree that games shouldn't be for free, but ?40?? A few years ago was the price of a game boy... Hell, buy 5 ps2 games and you got another ps2 console!

Um no, piracy is illegal because if everyone pirated then there would be no music, games, films etc made anymore. Whose gonna invest millions of pounds in a game just for everyone to download for nothing. What a great situation that would be .
And who says that because something is "illegal" we still don't do it? How many people have mp3's? How can you justify downloading music being something totally smaller and less worse then games? Because if you've downloaded one mp3, according to your logic, you are "disrespecting" the artist and the amount of time and money that he or she has spent making that song. And so, what is the point of an mp3 player? Isn't that encouraging downloading music??

Another thing is that not everyone will be downloading stuff because they don't have the time. Most people will be too busy and will buy the game from the shop because it is easier and because they have the cash to do so. So that situation is never gonna happen...

And it's not just the big fat bosses you con when you pirate, it's all the people who spent their time developing the game for your enjoyment.
Is it really?? I'm pretty sure that these guys get paid for their work once they finish... and then the big guy gets most of the profits after the sales.

I like discussions like this that cause a bit of controversity. I'm sorry if i have offended you personally and attacked you like calling you an idiot (Thanks vic_viper) or something... But i find it amazing the amount of people that say they're not into piracy. Because it is all around us... all the freebees. Some of you guys are not being honest with themselves really. (But if you are then this doesn't apply to you). If you have ever downloaded mp3's, clips, programs, pictures, documents, or games, somewhere down the line it belongs to someone and you shouldn't be doing it (Unless it blatently says freeware), it's piracy...

This is a world where people are lead by money, which is why we see arcades fail, or tv programmes turnout crap... because they are not made by true gamers. And true gamers are not lead by money, but by their love of playing games!

Do you guys know how to stop piracy? Its easy. Release games for free. But you could say the same thing with famine. So really, piracy is a no win situation. Like death and blackholes....
