I don't get motion sickness, but if I play 32-bit era games including Ridge Racer and Doom for extended periods my left eye grows in size and becomes really bloodshot. I think it's juddery movement that does it. It happens with current-gen titles too i.e. Unchartered, but it takes a lot longer for it to start happening.

I have to wear a special pair of glasses with the left lens totally blacked out like that guy in Airwolf.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Yea Ive posted about this before. I get it big time but I gip everyday anyway and have always had travel sickness etc.. I couldnt go near a console FPS or certain games like Tomb raider until this gen when the frame rates calmed down. I think the only game I get it this gen is Half life 2 in the orange box but I get that on PC version and also Resident evil 4. Recently played MGS1 on cube and I got that when I changed to FPS. Ive thrown up in bed playing stuff like Doom on PC over years and gone thru loads of keyboards due to it lol

Id suggest trying next gen stuff as its calmed itself down. It wont just happen to you on FPS it will happen in games with certain styles of camera angle sweeps whether its tomb raider camera on old gen or MGS1 in FPS. I even used to get it on mario 64.

Motion sickness wont seriously damage your health it just makes you sweat and want to gip. If you want ask for bucasteem you put em under your top lip and they stop nausea. Also either try with lights on or off but in general its down to the older games some of us just cant cope with the blurry graphics and stuttering frame rates alots improved this gen (last tomb raider still made me hurl on the demo though so never bought it). GOW Ive finished either 21 or 22 times never had one vomit moment caused by the game only my health issues.

I got that Baja racing game for PS3 on Monday. It gave me really bad motion sickness. I started sweating and went pale. Once I started to feel better I took it straight back

Yep I posted the same thing but for me it's only Wii games that do it.

No idea why but normal 360/PS2/Saturn stuff is fine

I think mine is mostly down to the movement involved with waggling the controllers as well as the FPS views on screen but I find I just have to play them in moderation & take regular breaks.
If I dont then the ensuing Migraine is crippling

Add me to the Half Life 2 Orange Box group, only time I've ever had it.

The first FPS I played on the XBox and one with with significant motion roll ie. a realistic walking gait: Return To Castle Wolfenstein made me feel odd to begin with. But I played through it and have never had anything similar happen since. I think in some FPSs, especially on the PC, you're given the option to turn it off for just these sorts of reasons.

One thing that I've read some gamers don't like is a genuinely realistic feeling of falling. It's not the looking down from a height sort of vertigo thing but a genuine sense of motion and burst of adrenaline (which I actually enjoy) when your character is falling or jumping and the camera dramatically switches perspecive or follows you down. This usually comes complete with graphical/sound enhancements.

Bang in the anticipation and actuality of a well designed kick of vibration on the pad when you hit the ground and it can be oddly realistic. Strangely the effect seems more pronounced in third person games. Tomb Raider is a good example and always does that sort of thing well, apparently too well for some players.

Orange Box made me want to vomit within a bout 5 minutes. Same with Timesplitters.

Halo 3 and CoD4 I was fine with, strangely.

It's not just FPS titles - I recall feeling sick playing Sonic Adventure - it's to do with the way the camera moves.

Only game that made me feel truly motion sick was Dark Forces on the PC. Not just me either, anyone I knew who played it went pale and clammy within minutes.

Add Star wars force unleashed when I try to find where I need to jump I got it loads last night on first go.

I remember getting original wolfy 3d when I got first PC back in 1992 and I got it out of the box noone had heard of it and I kept saying to m8 in shop that it made me need to lie down and sweat like crazy wanting to vomit. Read article in PC zone few months later about it and knew then I was afflicited.

Time splitters I took back same day its one of the countless FPS I could never play on a console until we hit next gen due to not being as smooth at turning as a mouse.

id hafta say Timesplitters is unplayable for some reason for me too! Definatley one that makes me throw in 5 mins tops!

There should some type of health warning on games now, in teh section ABOVE the epillesy (sp) warning bit!

They should do an article on the risks of video gaming or something lol........... Edge writer who is lurking around for new articles, pay attantion! You know who you are!

I never understand why theirs never been a motion sickness warning of the pointers as its been a more common occurance than any other related gaming issue.

not a game i know but i recently set a motion sickness record - Cloverfield

                              switched off after 78 seconds

i understand that its a good picture but the consequences aren't worth it

Yea same m8 I got it right away and that was on the BR version. I tried again a few nights later and kept stopping it or looking away. Must admit it was defintely worth keeping going as it didnt bother me at all after the bridge bit.
