Picked up the DC game. It's quite good.

Not exactly Jet-skiing but Hydro Thunder on the DC was one of the best things ever. Also another vote for Carve.

I thought the controls sucked at first, but once I got my head around that it was just different from the N64 version, I started to enjoy it. Still rate the first one better though. Avalanche was a much better attempt at an update though.

i loved both Wave Race's, everything else by comparison was bobbins though I recall splashdown on PS2 being the best of a grim bunch by comparison.

only thing that felt similar to me was 1080 as it had that advanced feel to the control scheme, even though its nowt to do with JetSki things.

I had forgotten that, it was totally brilliant.

Memory may be wrong but I recall it as playing like Pure without the pre-loading, you had to get your speed right for each jump.

Personally, I can't understand why Blue Storm gets the caning that it does - it really isn't that bad - far from it. I remember playing around with it when the Gamecube was released - I was instantly pulling off all the tricks just like on Wave Race 64. In many ways, it was like revisiting an old friend (sort of!).

Don't get me wrong - Wave Race 64 is superior to Blue Storm every time, but Blue Storm is nowhere near as bad as some people on here are making it out to be.

Nondescript characters? Most of the original Wave Race characters return in Blue Storm, as well as guest appearances by some of the 1080 characters. As for stiff handling and boring courses? Well, how can six minutes playing time (your own admission) possibly be enough to determine that?

Also, I think that you'll find Nintendo did Blue Storm in-house. Namco did Starfox Armada on the Gamecube. Starfox Adventures was done by Rare.

Yeah, you had to get the speed right to land on the downslopes, as well as setting the bike up to land at the right angle. Too fast over a double and you landed on the flat (either fall off or lose speed), or too slow and you slam into the 2nd double and fire over the handlebars I was so hoping for an update, but Excitetruck was a nice change.

I just couldn't get into it, despite repeated attempts, and that was so disappointing after the original was so accessible and great fun right from your very first try. I still have a copy of Blue Storm - perhaps I'll give it a quick whirl to see if anything has changed.

One thing I did like - I seem to remember lots of marine life in and around the courses.

Although I loved Wave Rave 64 at the time it is showing its age and the N64 Controller is no longer the beast that it once was.

Wave Rave Blue Storm however is fantastic. It looks beautiful, controls even more smoothly because of the GameCube's superior controller and the level design and layout is stronger.

All in all, it's the better game.

To each his own, but I couldn't disagree more. Although you might be right about the N64 controller - I now play it on VC. But I find it as fantastic as ever.
