I too love this game - have done since I played the demo for it last year.

And I have completed master's mode so it is not impossible... but it's not far off.

Haven't played it for a while (lent it to a mate) but got it back yesterday so I'll have a go tonight to see how much my skills have deteriorated...

      Definately worth it

I bought mine from ncsx, and bought another for a friend from Tokuda. I think venom/Tokuda can still get them, and videogameimports get them in from time to time.

Was Cool Cool Toon ever released in America or Europe?

          nope, Japanese only.

you miss some story text, but its fairly obvious whats going on.

there is one small mini game where you really need a translation, gamefaqs sorts that out.

some of the in game menus require a little trial and error too.

nothing too difficult, overall. for the most part its a straightforward rhythm action game.

Yes indeed. Absolutely superb game. My son and I play it often. So many fantastic bits. The arena section with the girl, the skeleton level, the flying suacers. And funny as hell.

Very true about the PS2 pad not being up to the job, sadly. Often I'll miss a curve because the stick will cause the line to move erratically for a split second, even if I don't move it.

And master mode is ridiculous. You people that have completed it JUST AREN'T HUMAN.

The analogue stick works fine as long as you don't push it full lock in the direction you need. Just push it slightly and its far more forgiving.

Gitaroo Man lacks a certian amount of polish; some of the levels look pretty ugly and unfinished and the whole menu/save system is clunky. The jump in difficulty from Normal to Master mode wasn't judged very well either.

But none of these things matter when the music is so catchy and the characters so appealing, largely down to the fantastic voice acting.

I played the game pretty solidly for 3 months until I finally gave up on Sanbone Trio in Master Mode. That doesn't bother me though, I had alot of fun playing it even if it was hellishly difficult.

I awaken thee from the dead....

Having so much time on my hands, I got this from Virgin (through the post) today, and finished it too. So that's around 12 hours solid Gitaroo-ing. I now see a blue dot in the centre of my vision...

The music is superb, and the mad visuals are ace. Special mention goes to the footsoldiers...

                  "Sir"
                  "Sir" etc.

The main trouble I had was on guard mode, when, especially on the later levels, too many ruddy symbols head towards you. But the flying through space once is the worst. Button mash!

I struggled on the piano bloke, but then aced the rest of the game on one run through. But then, the last song sounded rubbish in Moodmon-o-aural so I'll have to do that again. First rhythm action game too. Now, where is Frequency...

Good to hear people are still picking this up. It's one of the most fun games on the PS2 and I hope stuff like this continues to get published in Europe.

I got this in the US for, I think, $20 new. I'd seen it around for a while but it started getting very sparse on the shelves and I didn't want to be kicking myself, paying Puzzle Fighter prices for it a year from now.

                        It's a lovely game.

Here's the embarrassing thing: I've played guitar for 14 years, went through music college and still record instrumental pieces... but I cannot beat the drum 'n' bass space shark!

Somebody offer advice, for the love of God. I feel no ill will towards the game -- anything that you can discuss as containing a drum 'n' bass space shark is surely exemplary software -- but I want to see the later levels oh so much.

It's not like I'm Steve Martin in the Jerk and have no rhythm; I flippin' rawk at Guitar Freaks, which is still my widdly game of choice.

Either way, I'm glad this little game has found an undercurrent of appreciation.

Literally. Put both index fingers on the pad while resting it on your knee. Then put those Track and Field skills to good use and hammer for all you're worth. I actually did it last night with more the a sliver of energy.

And you haven't tried anything till you play the skeleton level, or the organ level.

EDIT- Blimey, I've just found the replay mode. Finish a level and the 'Replay' option shows the last run through, rather than offering another chance to redo the level. Goal!
