    My First Console

    Christmas 1986

    Deepest darkest Salford

An excited 11 year old unwraps a Nintendo Entertainment System

Back then, games were only available from Boots - how times have changed!

what was your first machine, and when?

    Sega Megadrive. Sometime in 1991.

My dad fancied the latest "cool" gadget. He got Sonic the hedgehog with it and a whole load of other crap games. The same day my cousins got a Snes. My first go at super mario world rather crappened the megadrive for me.

Still, my greatest gaming memories lie with that sega, same with the N64 and Dreamcast.

Yeah, it was the Megadrive for me. It was a complete suprise. I was upstairs playing with my wrestlemania figures with my mate and my mum called up for me. I came down and there was a Megadrive box sitting on the table! I WENT NUTS!
I still have that megadrive and its in full working order!!

Master System. And because I was about 5 and thus had little financial income of my own, I had to make the most of Hang-On, Safari Hunt and that hidden Snail game. Soon after, I played a Japanese MegaDrive with Rainbow Islands and knew that was my future!

Technically, my first console was the N64 at Christmas 1998. But, if we include home computers, I had an Amiga 500 from god knows when (1987/8/9?). The first game I remember playing was Another World. I have vivid memories of playing the opening level repeatedly and dying, time after time. That was true of most games back then.

First console will be a NES after playing my cousins Mario Bros & Megaman 2. Before that though I lived off the good ol' Amstrad CPC 464!

There's something about that present tense. It's either disturbing or exciting; I can't put my finger on it.

Atari 2600, c. 1983/84 with Ms. Pacman, Pole Position, Yars Revenge and Galaxian.

After that we got a couple of computers; Amstrad 464, and then later on in 1989 an Amiga 500. It wasn't until the Gameboy and Megadrive in 1990 that I got back into Consoles.

                            Megadrive. 1990.

It was after about 6 months lusting after a PC Engine, having used 8 bit computers before hand, but then saw a Megadrive running Ghouls n Ghosts and that was my mind made up.

Got it with Golden Axe and ThunderForce III. Still have the same (working) console and the Megadrive remains my fav console for memories.

A Sega Master System 1 at Xmas in 1989, which along with the built-in Safari Hunt and Hang-On, came with After Burner and Outrun.
