Don't worry about spoilers, hes playing mutiplayer against bots. They're pretty decent actually.

The atmospherics in the map look superb. Paper "blowing" around which looks pretty good, bet that gets a "He's over there... bollocks it's paper!" remark every game. Blowing smog, can't see what the collision blending is like but hopefully that's a bit better than previous UE3 games in which case it'll be great

Menu looks nice as well, you can change maps in the lobby now - at last!!

Hope the bots hold up. Epic have been doing bots since the first UT so know their stuff, but you need mutators in the UT games to really get the most out of them, such as having bots of different skill levels in each game.

I read the terms of the Golden Hammerburst Midnight Madness offer when passing by my local Gamestation today and it says the voucher code will be issued at point of purchase, so if you want both golden guns you'll have to buy the LE at midnight, which will cost more from Gamestation as they tend to charge RRP for things.

I preordered the regular edition today. £50 was too much for me for some making of extras i could probably get free on gametrailers or youtube at some point.

I probably would have gone for it, but with so many titles close together getting released at the same time. I can't justify the extra expense this time. Some of the retail releases are insane, i can't believe call of duty is out a week later. Its not real good business sense is it.

I'm probably being a bit ott as my money is dissappearing.

I've got the LE on preorder from Zavvi, as it's £39 delivered, but I might get a regular edition at the Midnight Madness and then get the other gold weapon code.

UPDATE:

I have never ordered with Zavvi before. So i never knew this.

They in fact take payment for the order straight away even though its a preorder and they don't have it instock. I didn't have enough in my account to cover this as i figured they would take payment when it gets processed/posted or whatever. So it f'd with my bank.
I have thus cancelled it now and they have refunded me my payment.

This is just a heads up for anyone who doesn't know.

Sounds like something might have gone a bit wrong there - they've not done that to me on my pre-orders and this is from the T&C's on the site

We will not charge your card until the item is in stock and has been allocated to your order.

They reserve the funds to ensure the card is valid and this then disappears after a few days, but they don't actually take the money until the item is dispatched.

Day One is a nice concept in the Gears universe. And Canals in SNOW! Awesome. I hope the snow and ice aren't just eye candy and actually have you sliding around

All the maps look much brighter this time round. Daylight comes to Gears!

I like how they've made the old maps, Gridlock in particular, look more like they're abandoned places. A little bit of vegetation makes them look that much nicer IMO. Makes a change from browns and greys everywhere for sure.
