i loved f zero GX. i can't fault it in any way. once you get the hang of it, it's easy as pie. the speed is ridiculous but the width of the tracks makes up for it so once you know the layout its brilliant. One of the best racing games of all time in my opinion and the definately my favourite for time trials.

Roller Coaster on the Spectrum had me on the verge of smashing the keyboard into pieces.
I seem to recall having much trouble with Contact Sam Cruise and Werewolves of London as well. Aliens (Electric Dreams version) gave me a lot of grief for a while, as I refused to use a map, but I got there in the end.
Robocop vs Terminator took the life of one and half control pads.

Or getting right to the end, just in the lead... only to screw up a corner by a microscopic degree and lose it. I'm getting a bit worked up just thinking about it. Might smash my keyboard up.
Haha! That's the exact same feeling I would get (the urge to smash something).
If it wasn't for the unfairness of playing the AI it's almost a perfect racing game in my opinion. Loved the 60fps original Ridge Racer High Spec demo that came with RR4 though, spent years playing that.

I spent four hours banging my head against that part of the level before going online and reading a spoiler that said, basically, don't push the jump button so hard.
That could be a thread on its own, though, I can think of a few examples where you can get quite a ways through a game and then get hung up because you all of the sudden NEED to know a move that's been entirely optional until now.
Back on topic; I'm one of those people who can't beat the first boss in Ninja Gaiden, but the game is simply too pretty to sell on.

there is a fine line between difficult and unfairly frustrating
Puzzle quest....now i know the computer has cheated....and i could prove it on several occasions
Ninja gaiden 2...some poor camera angles make things harder then they need to be....also the fact that the blocking has a slight delay and is not as quick as i would like also affects it to
i mean really a frustrating game does not have to be a difficult game

Like Boxhead said, GX ain't that bad once you get the tracks down.
A couple of the story modes on the hardest setting (in order to unlock the arcade cars) were too much even for me though. I could have bagged the GP one, #7 I think it was, if I'd have stayed with it for maybe 6hrs at a time but couldn't be arsed. I was smoking weed back then and never ever sparked up until I'd completed the task at hand. I got bored of not smoking too much.
PSOne Final Fantasy Tactics has a really unfair mid-boss that required my to go back and level up all my squad in all jobs or some totally stupid nonsense, the game was flowing smoothly up until that blatant time-sink wank-off. I couldn't stomach the grind and I doubt the results would have been worth it anyway.
Apart from those I can't remember anything being so difficult I had to give up on. I'm pure **** at vertical shooters so I don't even include those, nor do I even bother trying them anymore. Horizontal shooters I have more time for however.Last edited by dataDave; 20-01-2009, 22:08.

Agreed. The AI misses 'Obvious' moves and then gets a 88 chain combo that competely rapes you. Cheating bugger.
