    H2Overdrive and Hydro Thunder Hurricane

    arcadeheroes

Raw Thrills’ has revealed to us a brand new racing game that will be shown at ATEI next week that is tentatively called “H2Overdrive” (which is not based upon the PS2 game of the same name). In news that should be music to the ears of Hydro Thunder fans, Raw Thrills’ has brought together the original team that created Hydro Thunder to give us this new game, which will feature many of the things players loved about that game (such as the huge drops and many shortcuts) but add some new aspects to it as well (which they couldn’t say much about at this time).

The cabinet to be shown features a 42″ LCD HD screen, pulsing LED lights and the game itself looks “amazing”. We’ll have more on this when ATEI rolls around in a few days!
Great news, loved playing Hydro Thunder in the Arcade and on the Dreamcast, there are some more screenshots on the arcadeheroes website

Superb. Hydro Thunder was great on the DC. Hopefully this will find it's way to the 360 and PS3.

Was it Midway that published it? can't recall them releasing anything in Japan for Dreamcast, which is a shame, always wanted a JPN San Francisco Rush 2049 to fit in with the rest of my collection.

HydroThunder was one of the biggest surprises on the DC ! absolutely loved it, totally over the top arcade powerboat racing mayhem !!

I would say, bring it out !

i loved this too on DC, in fact I loved all the old brainless Midway arcade games.

hope this comes to the home formats.

I never played the original but that was my first thought when I saw the headline. Not impressed by this sequel though, gaming's moved on alot since Hydro Thunder but, other than the visuals, this game doesn't seem to have. Like I said though, never played the original so maybe I'm missing something...

It was one of those really fast and fun OTT arcade racers that midway did so well. Stupidly big jumps, blistering speed, ramps, shortcuts and cool looking boats with jet engines on the back. The recently released Pure is probably the closest thing to this type of game.
San Fran 2049 to xbl please.

If you check various websites you will see how many people have an affinity with this game

its just outrageous, if you've never played it before and stick it in the dreamcast for 5 minutes you wont get it

but put in alot of hours you start to see the humour, the pace and all the multiple routes start to appear, i even love the names of the boats (damn the torpedoes)

its just an absolutely fantastic 'arcade' experience

even on the new videos on that last one (tower of flume) you hear tarzan scream as the craft goes into a massive drop, i did notice the animations for the engines seem alot less than the original version, when you get sufficient boost the engine multiplied like a transformer into something alot meatier

since i dont own a pal dreamcast the only way i got to play this was on midway treasures 3

but back in the day when i had a pal machine i just loved this game and played it for hours
