MS did do a campaign in America a couple of years ago. Get 1,500 points in a two month window and they'd reward you with various goodies like Contra XBLA and Fuzion Frenzy 2. The more points you had initially the greater the reward. Since then haven't heard anything about them rolling it out to other countries or ever repeating it.

Personally I'd really love it if they rolled Trophies out to PSP releases. There's plenty of Sony published releases this year that could benefit from them.

Has it ever been explained what the value of the trophies actually are? How it all works etc?

I mean, how many bronze trophies would it take to go from Level 8 to Level 9, for example? Is there a set number or is a bronze even worth the same in every game?

PSN games don't have Platinum medals and yet WipEout HD does...it all seems a bit random.

It doesn't make any difference what the release media is, it's decided on the amount of game that is included in the purchase. Usually it works out that downloadable games aren't as substantial as games on physical media but Wipeout HD didn't get a blu ray release.

Some games such as SOCOM & Warhawk were released in both formats so it's not as simple as the media games are released on.

Some games get the value of the trophies right and some get it very wrong. I'm sure some actually use trophies to get sales, look at the trophy list for Terminator Salvation.

It's probably about 5 hours work to win them all and I'm sure some people will pay to get them.

Pointless really but I know that my nephew will be getting it and I'm sure that I'd be empted to borrow it off him for a couple of hours some time.

I ask myself why I would want to spend 2 hours playing this as I'm convinced they don't mean anything to me but obviously I do think they're worth at least a bit of time.

Bear in mind that I'm presuming this game will be complete crap and that's why they've just chucked them in like this but I suppose it's possible that the game could end up being OK...maybe.

It's games like that which really make me feel that if these things are going to be included in games then there has to be some sort benchmark as to what each one can be awarded for.

@chunky. I meant pretty much what you said. High gamerscore = meaningless. Achievements a d trophies tell people something though. Gamerscore also ignores the fact that I mostly game on a ps3 so there are a bunch of hamerpoints I don't have because I instead have them in the form of trophies or whatever.

That Terminator list is ridiculous, 11 golds and a platinum?? All earned by simply completing the game, lol.

The best examples of trophies are ones that take on the role of special missions (a la Warhawk) or ones that encourage you to learn how to improve your skill (Lumines Supernova).

I never thought I would care so much but now I am disappointed if a game doesn't have them. I like having a permanent record of the games I have played.
